CLEVELAND --

...It appeared to be very low in the sky, just over the rooftops, with a tail about 8 miles long. Some viewers said it was bright blue and yellow or bright green and red.

"This thing went from north to south in a downward angle. It had a bright green head and a short gold tail. I've watched plenty of meteors and this was like no meteor I've ever seen. It lasted about 5 seconds," Bruce said in an e-mail.

"I saw what I thought was falling star about 6:25-6:30 a.m. in Brimfield. It came from the north traveling south to southwest. It was round, brilliant white with a long orangish-colored tail. It was just above the tree line," said an e-mail from Myra.

"It was not like anything you have ever seen before (almost unreal). The light was just so intense (not some fireball). It was quite amazing how the light switched from an intense green to intense red so quickly," said Steve in an e-mail...

I saw the light as I crossed from Ashtabula County into Lake County on I90 westbound. Definitely not a shooting star!

I was driving on 90 heading west and about 6:25 I was by E.185th Street exit and saw a green ball going across the sky heading west. It was moving very fast and seemed like it was above the tree-line. It suddenly shot upwards toward the sky and vanished. I'm thankful other people saw this too.

This is all so odd as I did not see it this morning but last nite at around 10 pm 2 large bright lights came out of the sky from no where as though it was falling then turned out towards the lake and was gone in a flash out here in Perry

I heard something like a jet around 5:45a this morning, but it was much louder and the duration was too long to be a fast moving plane high above. I had earbuds in as I jogged in Eastlake, Ohio less than a mile from the lake and the noise was so loud I stopped to listen. Unfortunately, I was in a wooded neighborhood so I was unable to see anything except straight above me. It doesn't exactly seem like the same thing, but if anyone knows about this noise I'd love to hear about it.

Meteor creates early morning sky show.
By Ken Robinson, Newsradio WTAM 1100

(Cleveland) – ...

However, Joe Durocher of the Natural History Museum in Cleveland says, there are no comets near earth right now, so it was most likely several small meteors.

Durocher explains that meteors are quite common, and are usually spotted between midnight and 5am. They are debris from comets that are floating around in space, and vary in size from small pebbles to baseballs.

Durocher reports that meteors give off a bright light from friction with the air as they enter the atmosphere, and burn up before they reaching the ground, but add tons of dust to the earth's surface each year.

Durocher also says it’s the time of year when we start to experience meteor showers, last being the Perseid meteor shower in August.
