Bolivian farmer leads to dinosaur discovery
Bolivian farmer leads to dinosaur discovery

ICLA, Bolivia, Nov. 18, 2008 (Reuters) — Bolivian farmer Primo Rivera had long wondered about the dents in a rocky hill near his home. Paleontologists solved the mystery this month: they are fossilized dinosaur footprints -- the oldest in Bolivia.

I used to come to look at the prints when I was a kid ... but I didn't know what had made them," said Rivera, 35, who lives in the southern province of Chuquisaca.

The fossilized footsteps that intrigued Rivera for two decades are thought to be about 140 million years old, much older than other dinosaur prints found in the Andean country.

"The footprints we've found are important because they're the oldest ever found in Bolivia ... and the oldest footprints of Ankylosaurus ever found in the Southern Hemisphere," said Argentine paleontologist Sebastian Apesteguia in Buenos Aires.

3. Finally! Conclusive proof that dinosaurs and humans coexisted
These tracks are obviously fresh.

The proof is there! Why won't the scientific community just admit that they were wrong about every dating method in use, some of the basic principles of geology, the idea that some big rock fell from the sky and wiped out the dinosaurs (except for the ones that somehow magically became birds), and the LIE that dragons are mythical creatures?

Plus there's this amazing photograph that proves them wrong:

We know beyond any shadow of a doubt that Jesus lived 2000 years ago. How could this photo of him riding a dinosaur have been taken if dinosaurs weren't flourishing 2000 years ago? It couldn't. Either the photo is a fake (it isn't) or the scientific community is wrong (it is). There would be some record of dinosaurs being hunted to extinction (the only way it could happen) and since there isn't, then dinosaurs are still out there, hiding in the forests, jungles, underground, and secret government hiding places.

4. I know you are
being sarcastic. But really, this is a straightforward paleontological thread of some cool news. Do we have to acknowledge the fundie loonies every time we talk about science, as if there is some actual controversy that needs to be addressed.

5. thanks edhopper
good to know there grownups around DU

This is why the right-wing is so successful with Christians. "look at how the liberals mock your beliefs!!!"

Im a Christian and a scientist and I believe in evolution as the explanation for the appearance of humans. Every time you mock fundamentalists you mock other Christians as well, regardless of your intent. Please leave the name-calling alone.

6. I'm another xtian who takes science at face value
I love stories like this! Which is why I love to read and post in the science forum.

I read and watch anything to do with dinosaurs and prehistory and ancient human history.

*sigh* I think I'm a frustrated scientist at heart instead of an English Lit major. :P

8. Some insight
See yourself like this: You have a desire and passion to create this certain wonderful place. You start from scratch and develop it into something truly unique and awe-inspiring but in order to do so requires several weeks of your life for if you were to try and complete it in just a few days, it would all fall apart. So you carefully take your time.

Now then, you know within several weeks from now new life will develop but in order for this new life to develop, the entire design will need to age somewhat so this new life can develop and flourish in this new place. You love the new place you just built and wish it all the best and take care of it.

You now look several months ahead and see another type of life developing more special than any of the other life and you want to do things for it now to help it in the future. You think up a type of energy source that will help them in the future but in order for the life of the future to benefit from this type of energy, you allow this present life to die out and form this new energy source but will take several months to produce. So you wait and wait until it develops because there are certain natural laws that dictate everything you are doing here.

The insight here is God works the same way. He never rushes creation but has taken His time developing all of creation into the beautiful arena it currently is. Proof of His great patience. The dinosaurs as well as so many other types of life had to die out to form the oil used to power our present world. One proof about dinosaurs having lived millions of years ago is the fact you can see a fully intact woolly mammoth complete in every detail frozen for 1000's of years in ice but no frozen dinosaurs since they lived so much earlier in time. You see, God is a true artist that created the greatest painting of all-the universe with that great life He named "mankind". There very well could be types of "cryptid" animals which have somehow been preserved for these millions of years but would be rare finds. I do believe in certain marine species still around.
