Maybe we're living in a 'Truman' scenario and reality isn't quite what it seems. I worked for an org for 3 years that studied UFO sightings and cattle mutilations and am more clueless now than I was before I worked there. I met Edgar Mitchell (the guy in the interview) several times because he was on our board which met 4 times a year. He was an extremely nice man, and not a nut.

8. There were actually several congressmen about to start some kind of an inquiry

or serious investigation into UFOs when that Disclosure Project conference was held. After the crazy testimony of Clifford Stone and over-the-top claims buy Steven Greer, those congresspeople completely dropped the idea. That press conference did more harm than good. It mixed credible testimony with batshit lies from people like Stone.

9. 7 years later...

and the disclosure project still looks like a great way to part fools from money. I'm an atheist, by the way. I had hopes for the disclosure project, but have come to the conclusion that it's more about marketing than informing the public. It's not like they couldn't find financial support for an open-source approach; after all, SETI@home has plenty of interested participants and breaks even financially.

10. I think most intelligent people realize

a. we are not alone
b. we are not central to the universe

Where most of us have pause is the idea that given the immense knowledge, power, and advances required to visit another planet (likely meaning some form of real or apparent FTL propulsion), why would aliens:

1. visit here in the first place
2. be completely unable to cloak or otherwise hide their activities
3. be unable to "abduct" someone without them remembering large sections of it
4. need to continually abduct people when a small sample of DNA would be more than enough
5. have ships that look like a misreported sighting from the late 40s (i.e. the well known wrong report of them being "saucer shaped" instead of the accurate quote that they skipped "like saucers"). What did the aliens all change the shape of their crafts to match the misquote?

Do aliens exist? I'd say there is a 99.99999 chance the answer is yes. Are they abducting Bubba or mutilating Bubba's cows, or buzzing around Gate 27 at Chicago O'Hare for kicks?

Highly, highly unlikely.
