Were Mitch McConnell's comments about honey bees anti-science?
He just dismissed the idea of insurance for honey bees that appear in the stimulus package as wasteful spending. He was positively scoffing at the "lowly honey bee."

What I wanted to say to him is that in the Obama era, science will be valued, not disregarded. Does he want to eat? Does he understand the relationship between honey bees and agriculture? Hm... What about the colony collapse problem?

Is the provision in the stimulus package connected with BCC?

Yeah, in the size of the stimulus packeage this may not be a big deal. But McConnell's attitude and dismissiveness pissed me off. And it is just me or does he always look constipated?

1. I haven't seen it, but it sounds like when republicans were making fun of fruitfly study.

2. He is intimidated by the bees' greater intellect and significance.
The chinless one is truly pathetic.

3. Just another republican disconnect
He has yet to recognize that the bees are dying and without bees we are screwed.

4. Let him go without any food pollinated by honey bees
for a week or so. See what he says then.

6. The loss of honeybees will mean MUCH higher food prices for many of our foods.
And, we'll have to import many of them from other countries, thus increasing our balance of payments problem.

Mitch McConnell, the senator who can always appear more ignorant than he did last time.

7. Another thing
Another thing that bugs me is not only their seeming pride in the scientific ignorance but their attempts to turn a 800+ billion bailout bill into a referendum on 'Bee insurance'. They do this all the time by taking a big bill that has a lot of things added to it and finding the few that on the surface, or can be spun, to sound ridiculous. Many times when you look deeper and here the actual explanation of why the study or 'insurance' is needed you discover that there is a need that is very valid. If you ever watch when these guys are on TV pushing this BS you always see them get a little smirk as they are saying it as if in their heads they are saying 'I can't believe a lot of those out there are going to buy this but what the heck if it helps us gain power and hurts the other party great'.

8. If the honey bees die, the human race is fucked...
and will probably go extinct shortly thereafter. I'm so sick of these stupid podunks who scoff at science when it is probably going to save their ignorant asses one day (if it hasn't already).

Who needs bees, anyhow. All they do is sting you, after all. :sarcasm:

13. This doesn't surprise me.
The Republicans seem to take great pride in being anti-science cause we all know that science is a tool of the devil!:sarcasm:

14. Reagan scoffed at the solar panels Carter had installed on the WH
so I'm inclined to think that a number of Mepublicans are skeptical of science.
