Moon hole might be suitable for colony
Source: CNN

Building a home near a moon crater or a lunar sea may sound nice, but moon colonists might have a much better chance of survival if they just lived in a hole.

That's the message sent by an international team of scientists who say they've discovered a protected lunar "lava tube" -- a deep, giant hole -- that might be well suited for a moon colony or a lunar base.

For those of us considering moving to other areas of the solar system or further out.

7. Sweet. It would be like living in a giant ICBM silo.

Put a dome over it, build levels on the perimeter and leave a hollow shaft down the center. Use mirrors to direct a beam of sunlight down that shaft. Line the shaft with gardens for food and oxygen and a respite from drab industrial settings.

You'd still need grow lights for the 2-week-long nights, but it's a start.

8. Well, OK. But if I decide I want to live in an ICBM silo, wouldn't doing it on earth be cheaper?
