This is expected to be the last shuttle launch in darkness.

Only four flights remain.

4. Wow!
I'm watching as I type.

I've watched these missions for so many yrs.---all the successes and the failures and they're still emotional for me.

5. I'm in tampa and can see a strange cloud formation over in that direction.
It's the only cloud in the sky. It's kind of zig-zaggy/spirally - like a slinky stretched out. The bottom section is black, middle is white, and I watched as the round cloud at the top turned bright pink.

6. I recognize that picture!
That's STS-1; the maiden flight of the Columbia.

Recognizable because it is the only launch where the external tank is painted white.

8. STS 2 had a white ET as well

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-2

STS-2 was the last shuttle flight to have its External Tank painted white. In an effort to reduce the Shuttle's overall weight STS-3 and all subsequent missions used an unpainted tank, saving approximately 272 kg / 600 pounds.<5> This lack of paint gives the ET its distinctive orange color now synonymous with the Space Shuttle.
