The story of the mosquito.
Biology professors like to ask what animal kills the most people. Their poor students humiliate themselves by calling out grizzly bear, tiger, cobra, even hippo. The right answer, of course, is the female mosquito—

4. Don't know me none of that Latin, but
if that's what the Romans called them, then I agree. They're rampant around here too.

2. Critically important food source at ANWR
In Alaska ducklings and gosling's just out of their shell feed on mosquitoes by the multi-millions.

Hatching out on the tundra, the ducklings are immediately attacked by millions of mosquitoes, which land on their downy feathers and are promptly eaten by the duckling, lest the little critter get stung to death and sucked dry.

I know people hate mosquitoes, but they are responsible for keeping our North American flyways filled with new ducks and geese each year, at least whats left of them.
