2. I can sit out on any clear night and see at least one moving in a S/N orbit.

5. Yeah, but timing is critical for that..
Too long after sunset or before sunrise and the satellites are in shadow also..

7. Well, most of them aren't satellites per se
Sorry to boring, but about 12,000 of them are debris - bits of rocket, dropped spanners, 1960's astronaut turds - that still have to be tracked because you don't want one whacking the ISS at mach 40.

Pause the vid at the right place, you'll see they nearly all end in "DEB".
