What is the "Electric Universe Theory"?
Is it reality based or new age pseudoscience?

Thanks

1. It's anathema to conventional theories about how things came to

2. And that black holes are impossible objects.
Even though we already know there is at least one at the center of our galaxy.

I'm an "everything is a black hole or potential future black hole" kind of guy.

3. Tear me off a piece of that singularity so we can both observe its
indisputable existence, meanwhile don't forget that black holes are where God divided by zero.

5. How about a nice slice of the "space" between the singularity and the event horizon.
Now we're getting into the holographic universe theories of Susskind.

I don't have any problem with zeroes in reality, since black holes and particles aren't performing division. I believe black holes and particles are just zero point space plus energy, and since 0=0, all the zero points in the universe are the same "thing", whatever that may be.

Now that's a crackpot theory. :)

4. Wacky stuff
Their "electric sun" hypothesis is pure junk, supported by zero evidence.

Just a couple of guys trying to get rich.

6. It's considered to be utter bunkum by astronomers
total pseudoscience based on nonsense, requiring a rejection of pretty much all advances in physics made in the 20th century.

(Also, not a "theory" per the scientific definition of theory.)

Basically, EU claims:
-Electromagnetism is the primary force in the Universe, not gravity
-The sun's power comes not from it's core, but on the surface
-all stars are connected by an electric current that runs throughout the entire universe
-Black holes are not black holes, but rather "Converging lines of force"
-Comet tails are electrical discharges

Here's a good point-by-point debunking of the crazy that is EU.
http://kestalusrealm.wordpress.com/2009/08/30/point-by-point-1-01/

Summing it up:
"I would be much more impressed by this ‘theory’ if it actually had real evidence in support of it, added to our understanding of astrophysics instead of denying it, made genuine testable predictions exceeding those of conventional cosmological theory, and explained the universe better than standard astrophysical theory does, and didn’t consist only of arguments attempting to refute trivial anomalies that the proponents of electric universe theory constantly claim as being in support of their idea, as if by discrediting standard astronomy and astrophysics that their doctrine wins by default, committing the false dichotomy fallacy."

8. Future Jedis?
There's a force that binds the universe together, it flows through us...

9. That's what I thought - seemed like pure conjecture
But I have to admit, String Theory sounded goofy when I first read about it too...

10. Verlinde's entropic gravity hypothesis is much more compelling.

I'm playing around with toy models of entropic gravity these days. One of these days I'll get a paper out of it.

13. It's complete nonsense.
-Rocky planets are the ejected cores of gas giants.
-Lightning comes from space.
-The sun is a giant lightbulb
-Fusion is a lie.
-The big bang never happened.
-Gravity is irrelevant.

etc.

14. Lightning comes from space I go along with.
Extra high energy cosmic rays can open up the leader paths for lightning strikes..........

Just in case you get struck by lightning you can be consoled that you were struck from afar. :)
