Japan embarks on journey to center of the Earth to study birth of life
-------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese scientists are preparing to dig deep inside the Earth for the first time in human history to unlock the mysteries of life in an attempt to figure out how civilization came to be and how to save it.

The researchers will collect the first samples of the Earth's mantle for clues on the primitive organisms that were the forerunners of life -- and study tectonic plates that could shake the planet's foundations.

"Deep underground -- under high pressure, high temperature, with little air -- is the environment similar to the time when the Earth was created? By collecting geological samples from there, we might find biological beings that might have existed when the Earth was born," says Jun Fukutomi, an official with the Center for Deep Earth Exploration (CDEX).

"Samples of the Earth's mantle and crust will also tell us how the Earth's climate has changed in the past. Analysis of these data should give us clues as to how the Earth's environment will change in the future," he says. ...cont'd

1. Oh, great. Just what we need - for someone to poke a hole in this balloon.
:P Actually, I've always wanted to do that myself.

6. Balloon or golf ball?
I'd feel a lot better about this project if we were sure all that high pressure stuff won't shoot out like an uncorked bottle.

8. As long as they make it safely to the wound-up core of rubber bands!
... we'll be o.k.!

2. Oh, the fundies are pissed...
If these Japanese researchers don't find little red men with horns, tails and pitchforks

(you know, like these guys...

)

the fundies will be crushed! How can they go on if there's no lake of fire?

5. Let's hope they don't go deep enough to find the lake of fire
Imagine:

We all know the earth has a molten core. There's yer lake of fire right there.

If the Japanese researchers drill down into the core and find no devils, there's only one possible explanation for their absence: The evil Japanese let them all out.

Next thing you know, every bad thing that possibly happens on earth will be the Japanese' fault. If they hadn't let all those devils out...

Bush won't have to invade Iran. He won't have to invade Syria. That's because we'll invade Japan to repay them for letting all the devils out of Hayul.

Now let me ask you something: considering that devils are acclimated to the conditions in Hayul, what self-respecting devil would travel up the Japanese passage to the surface only to freeze his red ass off?

But naturally, it's a poor sense of humor. I think I'd just get annoyed in that hell.
