1. I try to stay out of the lounge as much as possible |
|
I find that most people in there aren't the "conscious living" type.

2. no, it's good to talk about these things |

I start shit all the time. It's good for everyone that we don't march in lockstep.

the overwhelming majority shared your views! The mod locked the thread. Stay out of the Lounge til the "receipe request for foie gras" drops out of sight. :banghead:

Seriously, wtf? If I respond, I'm a humorless food nazi; if I don't, I feel complicit.
What is fun or funny about mocking other people's sincerely-held beliefs?

Dropped off another educational link from the Farm Aid people trying to save the family farmer, so it's not really animal rightsie, but covers the digusting highlights of CAFO's nonetheless :)
Did it answer the OP's question ? Probably not, but connects the basic suffering world of factory farms !

13. I guess when those beliefs |
|
involve animals or vegetarianism it is always alright to mock them, after-all it's not like mocking race or religion or anything like that.:sarcasm: I really get sick and tired of the same old shit flung at us, I don't hardly venture into any other areas but here and Late Breaking News anymore. :-(

14. The Lounge is nothing more than a virtual high school. |
|
Full of cliques and substandard debating skills.
I used to post in the music threads there, but other than that, I got really tired of it really fast.

There are some people at DU who are incredibly callous. Most of the posters in that thread supported your position, and I would have too had I gotten to it before it was locked. Don't let a certain poster with a chip on his shoulder get you down :pals:

15. I missed out on most of the excitement. |

Since I had a brutal dentist appointment.
Diet for a New America is a tremendous resource on factory farming and the health benefits of a vegetarian diet versus a meat-eating one. The advantages just go on and on. I find opportunities to quote from it every day, but I'm trying not to overdo it.
Even vegetarian smokers have distinctly lower rates of lung cancer. It turns out that high cholesterol is a major contributing factor to lung cancer, and since vegetarians have much lower cholesterol, they also have much lower rates of lung cancer.
Ironically, I just read the section on veal production last night. Man, oh man.

16. Here's what's odd, but good... |
|
the anti-veal sentiment has carried itself out through the day. Sure, many are poking fun, including the OP in his most recent Lounge thread. BUT, they are discussing it. If one person is turned away, education in hand, I'll be a happy little veggie...

Reminds me too much of junior high school.
I clicked your link and found lots of "Ignored" comments. How fitting. It's one of DU's best features, IMHO. The world in which we live is stressful enough. I don't need to add to my stress level when I come here, so the ignore feature has really come in handy.
