March of the Penguins.. a must see...plus and intro to me!
Sooo... I shouldn't have seen this movie already feeling a bit emotional, but I was offered a ticket, and thought I'd take the people up on the offer. I cried through the whole thing! :)

It was equally beautiful and sad... I cried when it was beautiful, and I cried when it was sad. The cinematography really brings out the story. And the story is simple, which makes it more compelling.
Just wonderful, if you haven't had a chance to see it.

By the way.. I'm Stephanie. :)

I drop in and out of the forum from time to time, but I always mean to give myself a more proper introduction and start posting here more. Better today than never!

My husband and I adore animals. That might be putting it mildly. I've been vegetarian since I was in 8th grade, but became vegan about 5 years ago. My husband is on the road to vegan - he eats cookies and donuts every now and then, but is trying to weed out the junk. When I was dating, being a vegetarian and an animal lover was a requirement for dating me. Coincidentally, it was a similar requirement for my husband, so that worked out very well for us.

We share our home with a rescue dog, LuLu, four rescue cats (Basil, Crooks, Prudence and Beatrix), a rescue African Grey, Doris, and a rescue guinea pig, Beezus. Her sister, Ramona, sadly died on Christmas Eve.

We are proud, contributing members of several larger organizations, such as PETA and the Farm Sanctuary, but we give most of our money to local organizations. Having seen that movie last night, I have to find a penguin group that I can donate to now. :)

I am one of those "animal lovin' wackos" that gets choked up watching nature shows, plans my life around my anipals, and will give her last dime to an animal organization that needs money.

I hope to be more active on this board, as I always love to find the animal lovers in any group.

:hi:

1. Hey Stephanie!
It's wonderful to meet you!
Glad you decided to post in our little group! Hope you post more often! As for the movie, I would love to see it, but I am afraid of the sad parts! I might wait until it comes out at Netflix so I can be a blubbering mess in the privacy of my own living room!
Welcome to the group!!! :hi:

I have 4 rescue pooches (3 directly from the streets & one was saved the day her repuke owner was going to kill her)

You fit in here almost too well. When I saw you posting I thought you'd already been here awhile.

7. Hi Stephanie!
It's great to have you here.

You were lucky to find a nice veg guy. I wish I'd thought of that earlier in my life, but now it gives me hope that there might be someone compatible with me out there. :P

There are a lot of hunting, fishing, trapping Republican asshats in this state. :(

I've gotten more into penguins since I took a What Kind of Animal are You? test and it turned out to be a penguin. I got a really cute penguin calendar last year. My favorite pic is one of a bunch of them standing in a huddle, and one little penguin has each of his wings around a buddy on either side.

Too, too precious. O8)

I'd post that animal test if I still had the book. There must have been about fifty different animals. An online friend also turned out to be a "penguin personality" and we actually do have a lot in common. She's also a short redhead who is part Indian, an intellectual type who has read a lot of feminism, has a younger sister with whom she also has an eerie psychic connection, and they both have ADD and fibromyalgia (also like my sister and me).

I only have one cat right now, Kulo. He showed up on the doorstep about ten years ago during one of the worst cold snaps we've ever had. It was at least 10 or 15 degrees below zero and he landed on the front porch with a thud that sounded like a bomb going off (or like he'd landed on home base). I let him in and he's been here ever since.

I've also got four baby bunnies that I caught in the backyard over the summer, before the cats and foxes could get them.

12. I would love to find that animal test :)
I always thought penguins were adorable... and the movie, I think, did a wonderful job of showing just how fascinating and challenging their lives are.

I wonder what animal I would be. :)

9. Welll, helllooooo!!
It's funny. When I saw your screen name as the author, I thought nothing of a "newbie" in the group. I've seen you chime in many, many times in the threads of which we dare not speak their names (hateful, anti-veg threads).

Welcome to the group, and I know that I hope I see you down here a lot. If not for the veg group here, and the posters herein, DU would be a very lonely place for me sometimes.

13. Hi! :)
I'm not really a newbie, but I'm still getting used to the fact that there is a life beyond the lounge. :)

I've been feeling like I want to reconnect more strongly to that part of me that does the animal activism, so this group should really recharge those senses.
