What do you think of Splenda??
One of my good friends is always on my case to get off the juice; ie POP. I am admittedly addicted to my pop. He claims that the aspartame will kill me, or at the very least cause horrid side effects, and I believe him.

I have tried to stop drinking pop, but I do love it. I found some Diet Rite at the store today that uses Splenda instead of aspartame.

Does that mean I can have pop again?? What do you guys think?

1. Splenda is just as bad as aspartame
Artificial sweeteners are really bad news. You're better off just using real sugar in my opinion. Calories can be burned off through activity, cancer can't.

Stevia is a decent natural, no calorie sweetener, but it's expensive and some people don't like it.

6. That's what I was afraid of.
I guess I need to just stick to the water. I'm off to pout about it now. :(

9. I broke my soda pop habit with OJ
And eventually moved on to water. The OJ helps cuz it's sweet and has flavor, so it's not as drastic of a change.

10. I think I could handle that.
That's how I did it before, but I somehow let the pop back into my life :P

I will get some OJ in the morning, and maybe some little rubbermaid tupperware type drink holders so I always have it ready.

Wish me luck!

15. You can add a little juice to carbonated water...
Sweet and fizzy, just no caffeine - caffeine is what I drink soft drinks for.

2. Unless you're diabetic
I'd stick with cane sugar. It's sweet and really filling, so you can't drink it like water.

3. I'm hooked on aspartame too.
I know I need to stop drinking it (and Splenda) but I'm addicted to diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper, of all things.

When I was in college (late '80s) I had a sorority sister whose dad was a neurologist, and he told all of us that aspartame was toxic and should be banned outright, and he wouldn't even allow it in his house. Yeah, I need to stop too. :(

5. Looks like it's just you and me, kid.
We are the only naughty diet pop addicts it seems!
It is SO hard. I do so good and then BAM, back on the juice. *sigh*

Maybe you and I should hold each other accountable?? BTW, for me it's Diet Mountain Dew. The stuff actually has vegetable oil in it. That can't be good. :puke:

4. All I'll say is this...
When I stopped drinking all diet beverages, including those with Splenda, the constant ringing I used to hear in my ear stopped. Interpret as you will. :)

11. Try LaCroix or something like that.
Some of the bubbly waters (yeah, I know it's really carbonated, but I like the word bubbly better) are pretty good and can be really sweet with just natural flavors.

All the artificial sweeteners that are thought to be so safe and wonderful eventually turn out to cause cancer, brain tumors, etc. Some of the stuff about asparteme is really scary and I remember when it was the savior sweetener.

Try Sugar. It will never betray you. Hmm ... I think I want that on a T-Shirt.

12. I HATE Splenda.
Yes, it's bad for you, as any artificial sweetener is.

But, in addition (and maybe I'm splitting hairs here) there's this:

From SHAC (USA)

and the UK

17. Sick, sick, sick, sick ,sick, sick, sick.
The things we do to other species in the name of science are appalling.

18. Uh oh....
Aspartame was making me sick (heart arrhythmia) so I switched to Arizona iced tea sweetened with Splenda. Now that I see that Huntingdon tortured animals to death to "test" the stuff it's off my grocery list as of today!
Thanks for the info, although I have to think of a good replacement. I'll start with Switch Citrus Blend soda sweetened with cane sugar.

16. Diet 7Up with splenda isn't half bad
I don't claim to know any nutritional facts, just that it tastes fine to me - no odd aftertaste or side effects.
