overcooking soy fake-meats is the worst thing you can do. they are all pre-cooked already so you really only need to heat them up.

3. The best way I've found |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 10:26 AM by SiouxJ
if you're not in a hurry, is to pan fry them. Pre-heat a non-stick pan or griddle to about medium-high heat and add a little oil. Cook the frozen patty on each side for 5 minutes. I've had people rave about mine when I cook them this way. Since you have the pan going already, you can throw in some onions and have grilled onions on top of your burger. If you want to add some soy-cheese or something similar, put it on after you flip the burger and cover the pan. This will help melt the cheese.
If you must nuke them, then try 30 seconds on one side flip and go 30 seconds more (depending on your microwave).

4. They taste good in restaurants because |
|
they use an open-flame grill. Grill out your burgers and you'll probably find they taste the same as in the restaurant.

that's the best way- but don't leave them on the grill for too long. They can turn rubbery if not cooked properly

6. Some may only take 2 minutes to turn into hockey pucks in the microwave. |

7. Microwaves have a way of "vulcanizing" food |
|
The food just gets hard--not so much dried out, but it gets hard. Bread rolls are hard to deal with.

I "defrost" my Morningstar Garden Burgers in the microwave, then pop them in the toaster oven or pop them on the grill, amazing results, especially after dressing them with the works!
Personally, I don't do meat substitutes EVER, just veggies and of course, a Centrum multi-vitamin each day, which I do on meat days too.

Sometimes I defrost them in the microwave, then finish them in my ordinary "pop up" toaster.
