I didn't feel like cooking tonight. |
|
We went out to eat. I had catfish and Mrs bearfan had CFS.

It's early. I've only had a half a cuppa....and all I can come up with is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I would have never have gotten though. It's not something we grew up eating. I've heard tell that when done correctly they are splendiferous though. I have never had one....yet.

I love chicken fried steak with sausage gravy. I've only ever eaten it at restaurants though.

5. I tried the "chicken fried steak" breakfast at a Friendly's.... |
|
...in New Hampshire....BAD mistake...... the breading was soggy, the meat was some deviant form of burger which disintegrated into textureless BB sized bits, the gravy was bland and the overall effect was, well, disgusting.....I've heard this dish's praises sung and assume there MUST be some redeeming value. But if the Southerners on this site have any pride at all, they will firebomb the Friendly's in Rochester, NH.

The best chicken fried steak meal I ever had was at a truck stop.

Totally podunk. Excellent food, and in the middle of the night when most other kitchens are either closed, or way past their daily prime. Best CFS I've ever eaten. CFS is an art that like many other regional specialties is either fantastic if done by someone who knows what they're doing, or nasty otherwise. My experience has been that truck stop kitchens usually do a good job with CFS.

8. heehee...I'm still suffering trauma from the time I ordered CFS and.... |
|
....they brought it to me with BROWN GRAVY (this was in DC, which is close enough to the real south that they should've known better). After recoiling in horror and disgust, I politely sent it back and ordered something else on the menu (they had no white gravy).
