I need some help pls. Can you freeze mozzarella cheese
that is shredded in an unopened package. Will it still be usable?

Thanks. I have way too many bags on hand in the frig.

1. Yes....
With some qualifications. It will still melt fine, but be aware that it might dehydrate some after freezing.

If it's something you would normally use on pizza or casseroles, it shouldn't matter too much.

I wouldn't defrost it before using, just break it up enough to sprinkle. That way the water crystals won't be lost.

Cheddar, on the other hand, freezes not at all well, so try to avoid freezing it.

Think of frozen pizzas ..... they have frozen mozz .......

4. I do it all the time with all kinds of shredded cheese
especially when I buy it in bulk at Costco
