I made "beer bread" yesterday. |
|
I used a recipe from The Joy of Cooking that I'd been meaning to try. You just whisk together the dry ingredients (all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and rolled oats), pour in a 12-oz. bottle of beer (I used Pyramid Snow Cap Ale), fold until the dry ingredients are moistened, pour into a greased loaf pan, and bake.
Not surprisingly, it tasted exactly like beer.

1. I used to do a beer rye bread |
|
in which beer was the only leavening.
That bread was a sweet one, very little hops flavor came through.

2. This one is very hoppy. |

It's also somewhat bitter, but it tastes great with butter. The texture is lovely.
I certainly wouldn't try it with bad beer, though---the flavor of the beer really comes through.
