Whatcha making for Sunday Dinner?
We got pork loin roast with a rosemary/garlic rub, roasted winter squash, green salad and a loaf of freshly baked bread.

I love Sunday Dinner. I am rested enough to enjoy cooking, I have some time at home and a little help with the kids. Even if I don't do anything fancy, I find it a very satisfying meal, both to cook and to eat.

Anyone else making something good tonight?

1. I actually made a big lunch
but the bread is rising now and about ready to go into the oven

I made bratwurst for lunch with a big green salad, cottage cheese and chips so I doubt we'll have much for dinner......

I have lots of yummy stuff in the fridge but since I have tomorrow off, I'll probably do a big dinner tomorrow. I think I'll try another stir fry, I got some nice boneless pork chops and several types of veggies and a better fish sauce (extra virgin, first press Thai Kitchen at 60% discount/closeout)

2. If you brine the chops now,
they will be nice and moist when you cook them tomorrow. I always forget. :hi: Although I don't know if brining makes a difference in a stir fry. I guess that is mainly when you bake them.

3. soup with pork shoulder, black-eyed peas, and mustard greens...
...I think. I have to use the greens soon, and the pork is thawed, so there you are. I might make corn bread to go with it.

6. Mmmmmmm...
I love soup and greens. Sounds very nice. And you will have leftovers for lunch for part of the week. Sometimes that is the best part of the meal.

4. Dare I say it - Meatloaf is on the menu
I was going to cook our gift of surf and turf, but the lobster tails won't be thawed in time so we're having mealoaf, mashed potatoes and fresh steamed green beans. Tomorrow, we'll enjoy the filets and lobster tails with drawn butter and fresh steamed asparagus. I might even make my friends version of spaetzle (which is pasta cooked with carmelized onions, butter and swiss cheese) as a side dish.

7. Either meal works for me.
I am pro-meatloaf, despite the beating it has taken around here recently :)

8. I like ribeyes, too.
They are often a loss leader at my local grocery store, so we eat them regularly.

I forget, what does PITA stand for?

11. Actually, it should be PPITA, but I didn't want to be

redundant. It stands for (picky) Pain in the Ass, typed in a very loving way. :loveya:

And what is a loss leader? A huge new grocery store opened near us, and these were on super-duper sale, like $3.29/lb. Beef is usually much dearer around here, so I stocked up a bit.

13. a loss leader is something they will sell at a loss to get you in the door
figuring the additional items you buy will make up for the low price on the sale item

16. Dungeness Crab Louie
The store up the block has them on sale for 2.88 lb which means about 5.00 a crab. So I bought two and I'm making a huge crab louie salad ...

Yum...................
