Question about bell pepper seeds
I was getting the meat off of some red and green bell peppers the other day and carved it up nicely so all the seeds were still in the pod and was ready to dump them in the trash when I was asked if you could eat these (a la pumpkin or sunflower seeds). I said I really didn't know, but I would ask.

Does anyone do anything with these? Does roasting and salting them do anything valuable with them? Or are they just good for making new peppers?

1. i imagine you could dry them for seasoning
aren't the red pepper flakes you buy in the store the same type thing? these would be milder but probably have a nice flavor in a dressing or marinade I'd think...

here's an article on the hot ones, but bells would probably do the same thing..

2. I wouldn't. Not only do they not taste nice, they're pretty much
indigestible. Plus, they'd get stuck between your teeth.

Unless you're going to be growing peppers in your garden next summer, toss 'em.

Hot pepper seeds are different. That's where a lot of the heat is, so if you're trying to boost the heat in a dish and all you've got on hand are a few wimpy jalapenos, add some of the seeds and let the whole thing sit overnight. You'll get heat.

3. wouldn't use 'em for seeds for growing, either
Here's why: commercial bell peppers are grown for shipping, not taste. You'll find many varieties of heirlooms or other types of peppers at garden seeds sites that will be much tastier. After all, you're growing for taste, they're growing for profit/shipping.
