I stand my ground, and don't see much reason for snarky comments.

It became obvious to me through your earlier comments that the word "Democrat" means glaringly, stunningly different things to different people. It simply may be a regional difference -- I live in a very progressive area of a progressive/liberal town where there's plenty of of wealth but little conspicuous consumerism. People ride bicycles, drink beer, wear Goretex and denim, drive old Volvos. Pretension is out of fashion despite a lot of disposable income. I guess it's just not the same in the Midwest.

But to imply that I and millions of others like me are ignorant or "potluck" oriented for choosing to be populists and choosing to eschew certain trappings for Democratic politicians is, well, an implicit attack on the values and roots of the Democratic Party -- the essential mission of the Party being to protect the working man and woman. (After all, there's no place more "potlucky" than middle America.) I've lived on the East Coast and the West Coast. The governor of my state has often dined in my home. I've taken jasmine tea at the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China, dined regularly with John F. Kennedy's sister, worked as a writer for a prominent politician whose name is a household word, produced a 13-course gala ethnic dinner for 150 people attended by the particular ambassador to the U.S., organized umpty-dozen fundraising events for non-profits, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for arts organizations and hospital auxiliaries and NGOs through various kinds of events, and have been considered an accomplished hostess at home. Despite this wide background, I still would not plan anything but a populist-style event for a Democratic congressional candidate, especially when the DLC is trying to subvert the party.

Now, let's stop arguing. It's just a difference of opinion, and mine is just as valid and worthy as yours.

4. Girl, are you wired for sound now? I know if you are anything like me
you are being totally ANAL about the menu and everything being perfect! You are thinking about your meal prep and presentation 24/7...Hah!

I think I will revisit that post to see some of the ones further down. Did you ever hook up with a florist for donated flowers? Maybe I ought to hitch over to the thread.

5. I am very compulsive about every detail!
I love it! I will meet with the florist Thursday.....I'm not sure if they will donate or just give a big discount. I have my fingers crossed.

6. You will be proud of yourself, and refuse any compliments...but will
go home that evening happy about your food, happy about the presentation and happy about a successful fundraiser.

And if you do not press the flesh with Mr. Donahue, I will drive out 70 west to kick your butt.

8. WOW, you get Donahue!!!
I've had Marlo at my place for a fundraiser, before she and Phil ever met. Also, Jerry Springer, back in his mayoral days. Boy, Ohio was a hotbed back then, Kerry and the Winter Soldiers, Gloria Steinem and of course, McGovern.

Somehow with all those fundraisers and living right on the I-75 corridor, Detroit (Ann Arbor) to Cincy, but I never got a chance to meet Donahue. My parents took my oldest daughter, who was probably about 12 at the time, to a fundraiser where she met Donahue and she asked for his autograph for her mom. He gave it to her and said, "I hope your mom is happy with this." and you know kids. My mother said she was mortified when my daughter said to Phil, "I know she will. The only thing she'd like more is Dick Cavett's autograph."

Have a fantastic time!!!

Mary
