I'm eating for comfort and it's not working.
Mexican-chocolate ganache I made on a lark last night because the chocolate was on sale... I'm eating by the spoonful.
Orange curd I made this weekend as advance prep for a birthday cake in a few days... I'm eating by the spoonful.
Dutch chocolate ice cream... I'm eating by the spoonful.

I have cedar fever, I'm underslept, bummed about Alito (putting it mildly), and I'm avoiding the sink full of dishes.

What do I eat next? Cereal? By the spoonful?

4. Ah, nutella.
I had to stop buying it. My husband and I turned into slavering wolves whenever I brought the two-pack home from Costco. My fave was nutella s'mores made in the microwave, but the peanutella combo was always good for some quick and dirty midnight spoonage.

I wish these smileys were lifting spoons... :toast:

2. I just ate a shit load of almonds
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 01:24 AM by The empressof all
I was going to hit the peanut butter but the almonds were less messy. Certainly not as satisfying as chocolate...but I'm trying to stay away from sugar.

OK, I failed miserably. SO fessed up to having a satchel full of chocolate stashed in his car that he got as samples at the gift show he went to last week. So far I've binged on chocolate covered blueberries (yum), Chocolate/orange truffles (yuckie), Chocolate toffee caramels (double yum), and chocolate covered marzipan (so, so marzipan). Just small amounts of each....but I feel better already.

5. It's not failure.
It's an unexpected success at eating a wide variety of chocolate treats.

Chocolate coffee caramels? Ah, chewy chewy, so good for working out and masticating our disappointments.

3. I don't have a kitchen, so it's doubly not working for me
I'm restricted to microwave stuff my dad bought plus Krispy Kremes and the occasional foray to a so-so Chinese takeout joint with a dour cook I finally got to laugh on Saturday, an achievement considering the guy only speaks about a dozen words of English. And this is FLORIDA. Everything tastes like cardboard, even though I finally located a bottle of Sriracha sauce to try to give it some flavor.

I wanna go home.

6. Oh, Warpy...
I wish you could go home. I wish you pots of soup and loaves of fresh bread. You made the cook laugh, eh? I hope he made somebody else laugh in turn.

Hang in there - we're behind you.

8. Atlantic or Gulf Coast?
I can give you some hints - and access to a kitchen - if you're on the Central Gulf Coast.

My grandmother loves company, runs a professional kitchen for her fraternal organization, and is a (mostly retired) geriatrics nurse. She'd take you in in a heartbeat and let you cook to your heart's delight.

Dem, if a little old school dem....

9. That sounds great, but I'm on the Atlantic coast
where none of the charitable organizations do pick ups, and I can neither sell nor donate this houseful of furniture (and I'd be perfectly happy to donate it anonymously, just to get rid of it). I'm at a total loss about what to do, and I've only got 2 1/2 weeks left in which to do it.

I'm about ready to soak it down with gasoline, toss a match, and blow the state. It's probably too damp to burn, though, and would be left intact after the gas burnt off.

I hate Florida.

10. Try calling a church rather than a specific charity
We make all our donations of such stuff directly to churches located in areas directly serving needy people.

I used the plural, above. In fact, we give to just one church. It is a Catholic church located in arguably the worst, poorest neighborhood in Baltimore. They take anything and make good use of it. There's no tax break to us as they are not a listed charity. Our payback, however, is even better. We get to see the very people to whom our stuff goes. They help to unload it and they take it away. It is easily the most gratifying thing to be thanked so sincerely by such wonderful people.

There but for the grace of God .......

11. Thanks, H2S, but I'm in slumburbia, far from any city
and these churches massage the egos of the well off and Rethug, not minister to the poor.

I'll start giving em a try, anyway, they couldn't be much less helpful than what I've already encountered.

It's awful to be stuck with so much stuff that could do people so much good, and charities are turning a cold shoulder.

12. Thought everyone knew this already! freecycle.org to the rescue
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 04:02 PM by jeanarrett
One in every state: www.freecycle.org; sign up, pick Florida, choose your city or county and post it away.
