Fresh mozzarella question
How long can I expect fresh mozzarella to keep? It never makes it beyond one meal but I wondered how long it would be good if it did.

1. It depends . . . how fresh it is when you buy it . . . because,

typically, fresh mozzarella cheese has a 21 day shelf life from the date of manufacture.

2. I think that the flavor detriorates rather quickly
I find it stays fresher if you change the water you store it in every day. Don't forget to add salt to it. I wouldn't recommend keeping it more than a few days.

4. Thanks everybody
I wondered about changing the water so thank you for that tip. The stuff I bought last Saturday came from a freshly opened container. It's anybody's guess when it was produced though.

3. A week, tops
Fresh mozz is a ... uh ..... fresh product. It has limited shelf life. In times past, it was made daily and consumed the day it was made. In larger cities that's still the case, although even in large cities it is hard to come by.

Modern packaging has extended the shelf life, but only in the original, unopened packaging.
