What NOT to buy in an Asian market: |
|
Our local Hong Kong market sells delicious, fresh rolls that DH exclusively likes for his sandwiches at lunch. So, I'm in there, have a hankering for something sweet but not too fattening-sigh. I picked up some lemon wafers to fit the bill, but got home and found out the lemon on the label was actually a picture of Durian fruit. I know all about the dirty, smelly sneaker smell/taste of Durians (unless you grew up with them) but thought I'd give one a try. So wrong! Even sweetened they tasted rank. Note to self: read the label!~

Sparkly Jr is our Asian 'taster'. I can't figure out from Asian labels what's in a given confection's box. Neither can she, but she always seems to pick ones that are edible.
Wanna borrow her for a few weeks? We **may** even take her back! :)

2. I threw the box away in the kitchen trash, and could smell that |

putrid smell in the bedroom. It is gawd-awful (and now in the outside trash; can't smell it anymore!) I'm the jerk for not being able to tell the difference between a durian and a lemon.:eyes:

a hotel in Malaysia, I think, had to be sectioned off and sterilized to get rid of the odor. Nasty stuff!

5. I know someone who got very ill... |

....after eating a tray of a prepared food from an Asian market. One of those trays of pretty little roll things they keep on the front counter. (No, not sushi)
