Vanity non-cooking thread
http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/13898479.htm

In another thread I mentioned that I was going to be writing gardening columns for the Contra Costa Times. Someone expressed a desire to see my humble efforts :) So, here's the first one.

Mods, if this doesn't belong here, please delete it and I'll put it where it does belong.

1. Nice article ......
.... and mods .... this forum has become much more than just a cooking and baking forum. It is a group of friends.

I, for one, hope this thread stays so we cann all celebrate the success of one of our own.

Nice Job, Wryter! :hi:

2. Thank you
I have lots and lots of book knowledge of orchids. Unfortunately, my plants are horribly neglected. My next column will be about gardening gizmos. As I go on, I'll have to get into things I know little or nothing about, and that'll involve research. Right now, I'm coasting.

Looks like I get to share my columns with my C&B friends.

10. We should change the naming to the Cooking Lounge
or maybe the Coffee Shop. The Lounge reminds me of a bar. There are many participants and a more frenetic pace. Here we just kind of kick back and chat, sometimes even about food.

I do hope you will be posting stuff in the gardening forum as well; I know it doesn't seem like many people go there, but they might more often if they had your column to read. No pressure there!
Since spring is around the corner, I'm hoping it picks up.
I love to garden but must admit I'm a failure when it comes to orchids. They seem finicky to me, and are comparatively expensive, so I feel guilty when I kill them, which I've done.

Edit for boo-boo

6. I'll definitely be going to the garden forum for ideas
I'll probably run out of ideas pretty quickly.

Everyone kills some kinds of orchids. The trick is finding the types that grow for you. They really are addictive, though.

5. Wonderful article!
Your article makes me wish I was in San Francisco so I could go! I'd love to see all the orchid varieties, to spend a few hours amidst all that beauty - what a treat that would be! Lucky you, Wryter, to be in such a wonderful place as the SF Bay area.

Thanks for sharing the article with us, I hope there will be more in future days.

I really do want to expand to cooking columns. If so, I'll be quoting you a lot. :)

So many passions - so little time. I poked around and see your many talents. Kewl!

12. Thanks
All my passions used to make my husband laugh. Once I declared I wanted to learn bonsai, and he said, "No more hobbies!" At least, the writing earns me some money.

I do have a few little trees in bonsai pots, but no self-respecting bonsai grower would admit to having them.
