OK, I'm SERIES!!
After gleefully ingesting what must have been at least 20 pounds of red bliss potato salad (thank you, Costco, you murderous bastards), a half of a good-sized pig decked out as baked ham, more pickled beets, onions, and eggs than exist in all of Poland, and loaves of rye bread made by a bakery in (I'm also SERIES!) Frackville, PA from an Old Country recipe that's been the best in the country (we think) for at least three generations, I am now ready to consider - I'm SERIES! - perpetual purging as a way to spend the rest of my gluttonous life.

It's too late for that, though. I slept on this four-day binge. It's too late.

So, my early Monday morning question here, as we all face whatever leftovers remain in our happy homes, is: Who is going on a diet today, and how are you going to do it?

Me, I'm craving lean meat, green salad, and barely-cooked broccoli. Lots of water. Crying fits. Lots of loud complaining (it burns up calories).

And work. Heads-down, no-fooling-around, getting-back-to-the-novel-my-agent-and-publisher-are-waiting-for work. A story in which no one ever eats. They're all too busy talking.

If they talk about food, I'm doomed.

I hope everyone had as much fun as we did, putting it all away, though.

My new portrait:

2. What I had to eat on Easter....
A hotel's free breakfast - cold scrambled eggs, greasy sausage, potatoes, and weak coffee.

Half of an overpriced airport sandwich, plua a yogurt cup full of starches and HFCS.

And finally, dinner: a blissful trip to Taqueria Arandas #5 where I had the burrito al pastor, Junior had a taco de aguacate (it matched his shirt), and Mr. D had the plato de pollo.

HOME, AT LAST!!!

8. You couldn't resist, could you?
Amazing how the body reclaims itself.

I had the most beautiful salad for lunch - just mixed greens and some cherry tomatoes and English cucumbers and Vidalia onions tossed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and I scarfed it down like it might have been my last meal. I honestly don't recall the last time my body was gifted with a fresh vegetable.

Just a while ago, I had a Fuji apple and some Morbier cheese. Do you know Morbier? http://www.reluctantgourmet.com/morbier_cheese.htm

I have a huge box of instant mashed potatoes and a freezerful of Boston Market Bistro Meals to return to the local Giant tomorrow. Yeah, I keep receipts. They're the last processed foods in this place.

Amazing how we can slip when life overtakes us, and we end up eating crap that makes us feel just so awful.

Ever try Omaha Steaks pre-cooked bacon slices?

4. my sister lost ten pounds last month
No fat, no sugar. I guess I ought to try it after the lime chiffon cake is gone.

Tomorrow, it's V-8 juice, apples, and bits of cheese.

5. Read the May issue of Harper's
They've got a great article on pork production.

The crossword is a stinker this month, too.

7. I ate the "forbidden" foods over the weekend
I routinely eat only vegetables, lean meat, small amounts of cultured dairy (ie: yougurt, cheese) and no starches. This way of eating makes me feel good. It's hard though to stay away from the potatoes, pasta, baked goods and all the other good stuff.

I'm paying the price today though with feeling really fatigued and achey.

I admit, I ate the Pina Colada Cake..... and I ate part of a chocolate bunny.

It was worth it at the time.....Now I'm not so sure.

I'm making a Turkey today which will be a good thing. No dressing, No potatoes for me, and gravy for SO and kid only.

It seems the older I get the less I can get away with eating certain foods.

9. I had a lovely Easter brunch
at a local historic old hotel (here in Rapid City, SD), by myself, and I didn't even mind! A friend was supposed to come with me, but she had to cancel shortly beforehand. I'm used to going most places by myself, anyway, and I've never minded. So, I grabbed a couple of Sunday newspapers, settled down, and stuffed myself silly, from the appetizers and salads all the way down through the desserts. Problem was, I wasn't used to doing that anymore; I've been eating so much better and healthier since I've been out here on my own the past year (something I didn't think was possible, lol!).

Then, I stopped at the local coffeshop to try one of their Easter Egg Lattes; I don't usually drink lattes or indulge like that, but I thought, what the hell, it's Easter. Somehow, I managed to waddle on home and get some work done in my apartment before crashing. Then, when I woke up, I had a ton of errands to do, so I waddled on out. I barely ate anything today, and doubled up on the herbal detoxification cleansing tea (great stuff, btw).
