Salsify, anyone?
Seems like I can't find this anymore. Has anyone seen this in the stores? My mom used to make a great scalloped dish out of this and I'm getting hungry for some.

1. hmmm
It's getting difficult to even get rhubarb in the supermarket. Or crabapples.

I wonder if you would have better luck at a farmers market?

3. I haven't seen it in ages
although I still see fennel bulbs from time to time.

It seems supermarkets are going back to 1950s type veggie selections again, just bland fare for uncreative people who really don't like to cook and and don't have adventurous palates when they do.

There should be some sort of gourmet frozen market to take up the slack if markets don't want to be stuck with display cases of weird veggies going bad.

Here, you can't get flat leaf parsley. All they carry is the curly stuff.

4. I can't stand that curly stuff.
I love tabouleh in the summertime, and I loathe the texture of the curly parsley. It must be minced so fine in order to get a palatable texture that I just don't think it's worth the effort.

Can't find flat leaf parsley in any of our stores. It's all curly or it's cilantro.

Seeds are usually easy to find, or one can buy a small plant at nurserys that carry herbs. Just stagger the plantings and have it all summer.

How far are you from Wisconsin? Here's a source. Although it appears to be a fall crop.
