Cancer Project Recipes
http://www.pcrm.org/health/recipes/

I'm not the healthiest eater. But when I heard an ad for this web site on the radio I decided to take a peek at the recipes. I'm already going to try some of the smoothies and the bread/cake section. Also, I liked some of the imaginiative recipes like the meatless Reuben. I get so damned bored with the same old same old. So this site is another resource for trying new ways and ingredients.

Here's a smoothie I want to fix:
Banana Oat Shake
(Makes about 3 cups)

* 2 medium bananas
* 2 cups fortified vanilla soymilk
* ½ cup quick rolled oats
* 2 tablespoons maple syrup
* 2 teaspoons vanilla
* 5–6 ice cube

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Process until completely smooth, 2 to 3 minutes. Serve immediately.

1. The Blueberry Barley Breakfast might be a good alternative
to my usual oatmeal.

I could use some good ideas for the fall, too. My oldest starts Kindergarten and it is a full day program, so I feel like I should give her something really nutritious and filling to get her through the long day in good spirits. Maybe I will make whole grain pancakes on the weekend, then heat them up for quick weekday breakfasts. Hmmm.....

4. the nutrition plan my niece is on...
...specifies a potato as a bedtime snack, and then a protein breakfast, in order to balance the blood sugar 'til lunch. Could be home-made oven fries, a baked potato, or some steamed redskins. The complex carbohydrate and the tryptophan in the potato skin aids sleep, too.

5. What plan is she on?
Is it published online somewhere? Might be interested for my kids.

For easy protein breakfasts, I found an interesting gadget; a microwave egg poacher. Crack two eggs, add a dollop of water, season, microwave for one minute, and you have eggs! Much faster and easier than frying or boiling, and quick clean-up, too.

6. it's a plan for sugar sensitive people
....she had a horrible sugar and white flour addiction and is/was an extremely picky eater and her health suffered. I stumbled (while Googling) on the topic of sugar sensitivity and found material regarding a thoughtful diet to address it.

Basically, it involves a switch from white food to brown food, solid protein at every meal, and the potato at bedtime. Zero sugar and zero white flour is the goal, and we're getting there. Her health has improved dramatically.

Interestingly enough, her brother has no such sensitivity to sugar or white flour and can eat anything without any trouble. That's probably the case with your child, although adding the complex carb at bedtime and the protein breakfast is still a good idea.

3. A pat to your shoulder
One last delay right at the end when you two are itching to get going. This is pretty exciting stuff, though. One day's drive to a new sort of life! I remember when I first read your posting where you talked about getting "off the grid".

7. A follow up about the smoothie recipe
I made a 1/2 recipe and there was plenty for my husband and I for breakfast. We left out the maple syrup and used a little bit of powdered vanilla flavoring instead of the liquid vanilla. I used low fat soy milk.

I really like what the oatmeal adds to this. Gives it some "tooth" and the flavor has more depth than just fruit and milk. I'm going to make this with raspberries tomorrow since they were on sale last week and I have several small containers.

I give the recipe 3 forks out of 3.
