"Off The Broiler" blog
http://offthebroiler.wordpress.com/
This is a blog by the founder of eGullet Society, Jason Perlow. The photographs of the venues and meals are fabulous.

I came across it the other day when I was looking for news about Bourdain in Lebanon. If you scroll down and find the Bourdain entry you'll see that there's some updates from Tony in Beirut.

There's also a thread for Tony's show on the eG forums site. That's where Tony posted his observations of 7/18 that were then cross posted to the "Broiler" blog above.

1. I know this isn't a political forum, but damn! This got to me .....
... a quote from that second link .....

"Trapped, yes--but trapped by a freaking swimming pool-not under the rubble of our homes. We may be only a few thousand yards or a few miles from the falling bombs-but we have an eventual way out. What hasn't been talked about much in the press, is how many young returnees there are/were here: young, educated Lebanese who'd emigrated abroad or been born aboad and only recenly returned..how filled with hope they were, how much they loved their country, how hopeful and enthusiastic they were that they could make a difference (and they WERE making a difference). That is all ashes now.."

eleny, thanks for this. Everyone needs to read it.

2. I wanted to post some quotes, too
I hesitated since this is C&B. I'm glad you posted that. His observations are so moving. And I bet he does something more to educate people in his own way. He's a different kind of "embed" who will continue to tell it like it is.

I'm glad I also found that bulletin board where he posts.
