Can you make a frosting with whipped cream and cream cheese and a little less sugar than normal for a frosting? I'm thinking that the whipped cream and cream chees would give plenty of "body" to the frosting with the sugar supplying a little sweetness. Actually, any alternative to regular old sugary frosting but with the same texture would be welcomed.

1. Here's an old favorite for a not-sweet icing |
|
but I have only used it on white cake or angel food..
just a container of cool whip (yeh, I know) and a drained container of thawed frozen strawberries.. mix with a hand mixer on low and frost..chill before serving :)

2. Sounds like a ganache... |
|
Although a ganache is mostly whipped cream, and I don't know how well it would keep its body if you blended it with cream cheese. It's a perfectly viable frosting alternative, but it doesn't "keep" well. It's best if the whole cake (or all the cupcakes, or whatever) is going to be consumed within 24 hours and/or refrigerated until it's all gone.
