It's My Birthday Edition of What's For Supper (9/12) |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 12:45 PM by demgurl
Tonight we will be going out to The Melting Pot, my favorite restaurant. It is a fondue restaurant that is way overpriced but I think I love it because it is so spaced out that it takes a couple of hours to eat your meal. You are forced to slowly sit there and enjoy it.
Tuesdays kids eat for free and we have a coupon for our meal. The coupon includes a salad for each of us - we usually get a chef salad. They have a wonderful garlic and wine seasoning for your salad. I forget the full selection of items for the entrée but I do remember it includes shrimp, fillet mignon, chicken, and teriyaki sirloin. They have wonderful side sauces for your meat and vegetables. My favorite sauce is Sherrie Au Poivre. And then they have a choice of two desserts. I believe one is flaming turtle and the other is cookies and cream.
So that is my birthday supper tonight. What is on your menu tonight?

1. For my hubby, leftover pad thai. |
|
For me, Nyquil. I've got a whopping head cold and the thought of food in general and, more specifically, cooking food is just not appealing at all. A shot of Nyquil and curling up under the down comforter sounds about right.

I am sorry you feel so poorly. I felt like that this past weekend. Hope it is nothing going around. I love my featherbed and down comforter when I am sick. I hope you curl up, get plenty of rest and feel better in no time flat.

2. I;m making a beef roast tonight |
|
Baked, plain sweet potatoes on the side. Not sure yet what other vegetable. Maybe a salad since I've got the beefsteaks.
I've never been to a fondue restaurant. I hope you have a great and relaxing time for your special day! It sounds like fun!

It is really nice to get out once in a while so you do not have have to do dishes, etc....
I will say that I am jealous of that possible salad with beefsteak tomatoes. I hope it is a wonderful meal.

I'm going to fry some pork chops, nothing fancy, little olive oil and salt and pepper, make some baked homemade mac and cheese and steam some fresh green beans. My kids like the chops sauteed just crispy around the edges.
You have a great birthday! Sounds like a yummy place to eat.

12. jeanarrett, the chops sound great. |

Sometimes the simpler the better when it comes to food. Olive oil with salt and pepper sounds perfect. I have the ingredients to make homemade mac and cheese tomorrow night. (great minds think alike) Looks like you will have a delicious and healthy meal.

Not sure what it is like there, we usually pick casseroles on cooler rainy days - just like it is here right now. Whatever you make, I am sure you will enjoy it. Sending good vibes, for supper, your way.

19. I ended up with tuna casserole |
|
with my usual "improvements" ROFL
* 1 can (about 7 ounces) tuna, drained * 8 ounces elbow macaroni * 4 tablespoons butter * 3 tablespoons finely chopped onion * 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery * 2 tablespoons all purpose flour * 3/4 teaspoon salt or seasoned salt * 1/8 teaspoon pepper * 1 tsp parlsey * 1/8 tsp dried mustard * juice of 1/3 a lemon * 1 cup milk * 1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed * 1 can cream of mushroom soup * 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese * buttered soft bread crumbs
PREPARATION: Cook macaroni until tender, drain and rinse.
Melt butter in a large saucepan or Dutch oven; add chopped onions and celery and sauté over low heat for about 3 minutes. Add flour, salt and pepper; stir until smooth and bubbly.
Add milk, parsley, mustard, lemon juice and mushroom soup and stir over low heat until smooth and thickened. Add cooked macaroni, flaked tuna, peas and half of the cheese to sauce mixture, stirring constantly. Pour mixture into 2-quart buttered casserole; top with remaining cheese then buttered bread crumbs. Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes, or until nicely browned.
Tuna casserole serves 4 to 6

22. I had a hunch that is the direction you would go in. |
|
That is partially why I commented on the tuna casserole in particular. Thanks for the recipe. The bad thing about me is it is hard to pass on a recipe. I usually eye things and so I am not even sure of the amounts. I also do the same thing on cooking time. I guess all of us do that to some extent.

Mine's a little different, more like an alfredo sauce.
If I it screw up, it can't taste too bad, cause the pasta is freshly made (No, I didn't make it!), and that's always yummy.
Thanks for the link ;-)

but I wonder if there is something I could sub for asparagus? We are not big asparagus fans here. If the recipe can be modified then I may make it this weekend. Any suggestions?

Tonight we had baked potatoes with turkey chili on top. I try to keep it simple on nights that hubby has rowing practice and gets home late. It also frees up time for me to work out, too.
