Southern New Year's traditions |
|
Who else is having black eyed peas, ham, and corn bread for dinner tomorrow? (I don't do collards lol.) I was getting my peas ready to soak a little while ago and my husband just laughed and shook his head. He's not Southern lol, and thinks it's odd to have to have the same thing every New Year's lol.

1. Traditions are wonderful. Hang on to them as long as you can |

Here in Maryland many people do the black eyed peas thing on New Years. One day of good luck for every bean eaten.

I am soaking 2 ham hocks in water to get some of the salt out. Black eyed peas with ham hocks are superb.

The only time I've ever had it was when I found a Zatarain's mix at a supermarket and took it home. I never saw another box of it. It was delicious.
