Help! My husband is a pothead!!!
After we were married, we decided to chuck all the old Revere stuff and start over with a new set of pots and pans. He got on the internet and researched everything for weeks, and finally we got a Cuisinart set.

Then he discovered Citram Cybernox (sp?). Got a set of three saute pans.

Next, he had to have some new non-stick saute pans, with that black coating. Three of those.

Then, he discovered Martha Stewart's pots at K-Mart, heavy with bolted-on handles. "We already have pots that size!" I said. "But these are different shapes than we have!" One had rounded sides, one had sides that sloped outward, etc., and they all had fancy names like "Windsor," which he may have made up for all I know.

But then he started finding copper pots and pans at discount stores, and since then he's gone straight downhill. Last year, he bought himself some as Christmas gifts. By this Christmas, he was just buying them boldly, right in front of me. "I just want to go into Marshall's for a second," he says -- but I know what it's about. "Let's stop in Home Goods." He may SAY he's looking for an orange zester, but he ends up at the pans, cruising for copper.

I often catch him in time. "Drop it!... Step aWAY from the copper..."

Yesterday I was teaching piano lessons and he came home from a business meeting, carring his briefcase in one hand and two bags in the other... Obviously, he didn't come straight home, and I saw the glint of copper pans inside the white plastic bags. "DID YOU BUY MORE COPPER PANS???"... "Huh? Well... "

I'm sure he thinks he can quit anytime he wants to. I'm wondering if there's a 12-step program for this.

1. chuck the Revere?
Gasp!

I still look for Revere at estate sales. The old heavy stuff. A set can last two lifetimes, at least.

3. I love my copper-bottom Revere ware
I have a 15 year old set I still use everyday. I also have a large (it's at least 2 gallons) stock pot that is about 35 years old. I think it's great stuff, myself. But, I understand the urge for more "cooking stuff" (said by someone who never misses a Pampered Chef party)!

4. Thanks AZDemDist6 !
That was nice. I'm going to post my fajitas I'm making for supper with pics. I don't think Mrs bearfan minds me doing all of the cooking either as long as I do the dishes and rub her feet.

7. You know he's a treasure!
We sure do!

But seriously - I have a pots n' pans jones, myself. I'm currently rearranging my kitchen and nook furniture that can be moved to make room for another storage piece. I was thinking of putting up another pot rack but one is enough. I hope you have room to hang all those lovely coppers. They sound beautiful and I am jealous of them, your foot rubbings and that big pot of chicken soup!

8. nope, you are confusing bearfan with husb2sparkly
bearfan makes the soup and does the footrubs

husb2sparkly is this lady's hubby and has the funny clown sig line and knows everything you every wanted to know about olive oil (and apparently a pot/pan issue) LOL

9. I'm confused beyond belief!
But whoever is doing what for whom - I'm jealous! Olive oil expert, too? Hmmm.... now that's a thread I have to read. Luckily, my local Italian deli has an o-oil tasting bar with tiny pieces of bread. Otherwise I'd be flying blind.

Hope your having a great weekend!

10. i went thrifting today!!
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 11:22 PM by AZDemDist6
on a mission for a carasel for my (newly cleaned out) spice cupboard

had the measurements and my little 3 foot measuring tape in my purse

thought I did a major score with an unfinshed 3 tier square that was just the "right size"

also found a great canvas bag for groceries etc for $1 :bounce:

got my "score" home and hadn't figured the corners on the square.... it fit perfectly but didn't have enough room to spin

EDIT to add: Hubby says he can cut the corners off with a jig saw and it will fit!! :bounce:

while I was there I saw my same Oster breadmaker for only $15 (too bad I already own one LOL)

then I stopped by the house that has the sign out front that reads Grapefruit Lemons Oranges--- $1.50 a bag

they didn't have any lemons picked (I need them for my store) so the lady and I went with my new canvas bag and picked a bunch of lemons for work and 6-8 tangelos for home and had a nice chat.

She was so nice and we had such a nice time walking around picking citrus, she gave me a jar of her home made apple butter from her apple trees

I am having a good weekend except when I got home I heard the sad news. Isn't it horrible about Kephedra?? I was so sad to hear that... wonder what happened?

how are you?

edit to add the link to husb2spakly's olive oil link,....

11. Hi
I'm doing good. But, yes, the news here at DU is sad. Whenever I would see one of his LBN posts, I knew it would be good information. I'm new to DU having only been here since 8/03. He was a pioneer and much respected. It was very nice of his mother to let everyone know. What a sweet person.

........................

Let me say congrats on your thrifting finds of today. Hubby to the rescue! Nice that you found a wooden spice carousel. Classy, m'dear. You should see my old beige plastic ones. One of them is even warped from being close to the stove. I'll keep it for my art supplies.

How nice to be able to pick citrus fruits this time of year, too. And I also read about your new oil bottle. You get a lot of very nice syrup bottles with raised patterning. They'd be great for flavored vinegars.

And about the Cuisinart. Oh heck. But it goes to show how good thrifting can be. I still haven't gotten out to the new ARC thrift. My plan is to shoot for Tuesday since that's a discount day. I'm overdue for a deep thrift. Often I meet interesting people, too. You know someone is into it when they're sitting on the floor and going through every stack of dishes one at a time. I usually can't help but comment on their fortitude.

Looks like we've got a bunch of thrifty shoppers here at DU. The postings of great finds have been terrific.

13. My parents live in Sun City in Tampa Fla
and they said people have so many oranges, grapefruits, and lemons when they come in season that they put grocery bags out on the end of their driveways for people to take for free. They have so many they can't even give all of them away. A lot of them go to waste by rotting. My Mom juiced up a lot of them but you can only drink so much juice.

14. One more way to save the juice
Freezing it in ice cube trays, popping out the cubes and saving them in a bag. Great for adding to chilled drinks or using in recipes.
