My fast food week in Fort Worth Tx
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 11:31 PM by bearfan454
I gained 5 pounds. I knew it would happen. I just got in about an hour ago. I ate a bunch of Wendy's 99 cent side salads. Taco Cabana for chorizo and egg breakfast tacos and eggs mexicana one morning. One morning Whataburger biscuits and white gravy with coffee. I had my coffee pot in the room too because I have to have about 6 or 8 cups before I even go out. We went to Empress Chinese food buffet on Seminary Drive right by the motel. For 7.99 they had king crab legs, several kinds of shrimp, soups, eggrolls, beef and brocolli, raw oysters, fried chicken wings, and all kinds of other Chinese food. Whataburger double meat hamburger one day, pizza, a gyro at a Bosnian restaurant, bologna sandwiches sometimes, Mexican plate one night, deer hard salami I brought with me, soup and salad at the Texas cafe in Benbrook Tx today for lunch because it is right by the driving yard. I'll probably barbecue something for tomorrow for the playoffs.

I passed all of my written tests at the Texas DPS and I passed the driving test with an 88 score. Parallel parking and straight backing are easy. We will learn how to do 45 and 90 degree angle parking next week. The trucks are 10 speeds. By the time you get to 6th gear you are up to 15 mph. There are 4 of us in each truck with the instructor and we drive for about 1 1/2 hours each. We went on a road trip today. It was fun. I think I am going to like my new career. The neocons can't send this job to China.

3. Eating healthy will be a challenge for you once you're on the road, too.
Soon, you'll be sharing with us all the ways to eat healthy on the road, I hope! It isn't easy, is it?

Congratulations on making it through the first week and doing so well on the exams! I've often thought I'd make a good OTR driver since I love to drive. I enjoy checking out the countryside. I also enjoy listening to books on tape when on long trips.

You may want to invest in satellite radio. I just got a Sirius satellite radio car receiver and boombox for Christmas and now I lament that I'm not in the car long enough! I listen to NPR and old-time radio programs but they also have Air America and something called "liberal talk." There's even a talk channel for truck drivers.

Looking forward to next week's update!

6. Way to go bearfan454!
Congrats on the tests! :)

My son has been a truck driver since he was 18. Eighteen years later he's an independent. He loves it and it sounds like you do too. Best wishes to you in your new career path.

7. Welcome back
My nephew drives otr and loves it. He gained some weight the first several months, but it leveled off for him once he got used to the routes. He has begun to take food from home which he said helped with the weight and the taste for home cooked food.
