I went to Tuesday Mornings for the first time. |
|
What a mess! LOL But I did hit the jackpot! I've been needing new dishes and haven't found any sets that I like. Additionally, I don't want any new coffee mugs or cups and saucers. The tile on my kitchen counter is pink, black and gray to coordinate with the pink, black and gray chrome and formica table that was my grandmother's.
So anyway, I walked down to one end of this aisle and there were some large pink (really kinda rose) stoneware dinner plates and bread plates to match. They only had six dinner plates so I got all of them and six bread plates. All the bread plates were marked 75% off and only one of the dinner plates had a 25% off sticker on it. She ended up giving me 75% off of every piece so I got them all for $8.85 including tax.
I think she did that because I kinda told off this other shopper while I was checking out. The woman who was checking me out took me to another line so the other cashier could go to the bathroom. The other shopper was over about 10 feet from the registers and was yelling, "Hey, can you help me?" And she did it a couple of times. Finally, I looked at her and told her that the other girl had to go to the bathroom and this one was checking me out and she'd just need to wait a minute. The stupid thing is that she wanted to know if all the ceiling fans were the price on a yellow ticket that was just lying on the top box. It was a ticket that came off of a pair of sunglasses on a spinning rack right next to the fans. It was totally obvious where it had come from. The checker and I were having a good laugh and she told me and my MIL thanx for having such good senses of humor.
I would have liked to have some black bread plates to go with them but there weren't any. Maybe I can find some plain black ones later.

It is the coolest with ab fab prices. You have to keep going back & digging, but the deals are amazing. I did the entire guest bathroom in one trip. It took quite a while since it's not color coordinated like the big box stores however I got awesome towels & shower curtain & rug in beautiful materials.

I really do need to go back when we get the house completely finished inside and look around when I have more time. My MIL was all checked out before I even got half way thru the store and really didn't get a chance to look at everything I wanted to.
I'm trying to convince my husband to let me buy him a Cuisinart coffeemaker with the black thermal carafe they had there for only $60. That seems like such a great buy! He has a Krups now that we got at a community garage sale where I work a couple of years ago. It's working just fine so he doesn't think he needs it. I figure it was well used before we got it and will peter out here sooner or later. And I'd like him to have the thermal carafe so he can just take it upstairs to the bedroom where his computer is and not have to keep coming back down for a fresh vup of coffee all the time.

3. lucky you to have a TM by your house |
|
in PHX I had a TM half a mile away and 3 awesome thrift stores with in five miles.
here, it's a 75 mile round trip for ANYTHING except WallyWart
I'm forever sending my step mom on shopping trips for me, but she's no fun cuz if she doesn't find it the first time she goes to Amazon and pays retail so I quit asking her.
she has no sense of 'the hunt'
congrats on your MAJOR score, you'll find black dishes in no time
:hi:

5. Well, they're not exactly close to home, |
|
probably about 25 miles away, but they are pretty close to work. We live in a rural area so I do all the shopping during the week while I'm in town so we don't have to waste the time and gas on the weekends.
Wallyworld never even crosses my mind anymore when I set out to do some shopping. Since we stopped shopping there years ago, I literally never even think of them when I'm looking for something.

Thanx! I love my kitchen table. It's one of my prize possessions. It reminds me of my lovely Italian gran whom I spent much, much time with and loved very dearly.

8. Black's generally easier to find than pink right now |
|
because the Trendies are having a love affair with black dinnerware.
My scores have been a Cusisinart cutting board with handles that I can stick on the wall when it's not in use, a pasta pentola that I saw listed for over $400 on the web but which cost me $80, and a very few bits and pieces of linens to replace stuff that had been wearing out for years. Oh, and some arthritis friendly kitchen gadgets that replaced stuff that's been getting harder to use and which went right to the ARC thrift shop. Oh, and the ugliest pink rolling suitcase I've ever seen but will be easy to spot on the airport carousel.
The trick with that store is to go in with a completely open mind. You'll drive yourself nuts if you look for anything specific.

the black will be easier to find, even if not at TM. And, you're right about going in with an open mind. I try that method at other places, too.
I wasn't looking for anything specific when I went in yesterday. Just had never been and kept forgetting that it was even there. I figured sometime ago that I would really have to search and search for dishes and I only ended up with these because I happened to see them while checking the place out.

11. That's my main "outlet" store these days. |
|
We have a wonderful one with a great manager. Clean, well-lit, and easy to see everything. That's where I get most of my kitchen stuff these days. Best prices around.
Ooh, and they have yarn. Good yarn. Another reason to head in. ;)

12. My wife loves the place |
|
I can't stand the chaos of our local store. On a related note, a guy moved into a strip mall store front next to our Tuesday Morning with a similar product line who was even cheaper. My wife couldn't believe the prices. About 2 months later the owner was arrested, turns out he was a night security guard who had keys to several local businesses and was helping himself to their stock. What finally got him was his selling goods with Dollar General price tags 1/2 price.. :dunce:

Sounds like he got a little tooo greedy, no?
It is pretty chaotic and messy and I usually don't like that but if I'm not in a hurry, it's okay.

And the party supplies like napkins, plates, etc. are dirt, dirt, dirt cheap. You have to go in with an open mind & spend a bit of time, but the prices are nothing compared to retail.
