Clear!
Whew! Been at it most of the day and have made:

-pancakes for breakfast
-yogurt for the week
-whole cranberry sauce to stir into the yogurt when eaten
-pasta salad with fresh parsley, grape tomatoes, sliced green olives, green onions, and olive oil for lunches
-cookies, also for lunches
-falafel, ditto-lunches!
-and this cake: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Caramel-Apple-Coffee-Cake/Detail.aspx (cut the oil and sugar down in this recipe, cut the glaze in half as per other reviewer suggestions, and only baked for an hour.)

And actually kept up with all the dishes! Thank goodness I had left over Italian Pot Roast to reheat for dinner!

Kicking off my shoes and sitting down with an ice cold glass of water. Stick a fork in me--I'm done!

1. geez you sound like me most Sundays
I had a meeting to attend today and grocery shopping to do so today was an unusually light cooking day for me

I made the pecan coffee cake yesterday and an extra hamburger for tomorrow's lunches, I'll do the rest tomorrow.

it's a nice feeling though isn't it?? is the kitchen clean too? if it is, you are a goddess!!

:yourock:

2. Yep!
And that's really rare, so I can't claim the goddess title. I usually have a sink full of dirty dishes. I always do this to myself every weekend. Friday afternoon-grocery shopping, Saturday- laundry and cleaning, and Sunday-cook up a storm!

I really wanted a pecan coffee cake or some pecan rolls but I just didn't have it in me this weekend, plus no pecans. Oh well, there's always next weekend. :eyes:

Hamburgers for dinner sound good. Nothing like good homemade ones!

BTW, :yourock: too!

3. I have over 35 pounds of pecans in the freezer
we grow LOTS of pecans around here, I helped some friends 'clean up' their yard and got 55 pounds of nuts in the shell out of it, my freezers (yes both of them) are stacked!

5. How do you crack them open?
Just curious. We got some in Texas on a trip decades ago. I remember that I had to take a hammer to them. I was almost ready to give up and just decorate with them. They're tough!

6. I used vise grip pliers on them
although regular pliers should work as well. I just got fancy because you can set the vise grips to stop at a certain point and they won't mush up the nut meat underneath the shell. Regular pliers take practice.

7. Great idea...
We have a pair of those. I tend to crumble walnuts with regular nutcrackers. So, the vice grips would work well for them since that nut meat is so delicate. Thanks.

8. it was well worth the fifty cents a pound to take them to a farmer and
have him use his commercial cracker

I have to be fairly careful picking through the nuts for any pieces of 'missed' shells but they are 98% clean and ready to use

so for two hours labor at my friends' house and $26 I have TONS of pecans ready to go :bounce:

14. this is what I like to use for pecans
I remove the little catcher cup. I like this because you actually cut the shell rather than crushing the whole nut.

12. Hi, Simply Fugue!
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 06:42 PM by hippywife
Yes it does pay great dividends through the week. All the breakfasts and lunches are planned out and easier to pack each morning. I really only have to worry about dinners. Now if I could find a solution to the dish dilemma! LOL

What's new in your kitchen, dear? :hi:
