Fast thawing tip
I don't where the hell I heard this ...... it may even have been here.

If you want to thaw something far faster than just leaving it out at room temperature, put it in a highly conductive metal pan. Aluminum or copper are best. The greater the contact between the frozen item and the pan, the better.

The concept is that the conductive metal conducts the cold away from the item far faster than would air. Putting on a low conductivity dinner plate or countertop is no help at all.

Anyway ..... this really works. Maybe two hours for a pork chop. An hour for a tuna or swordfish steak.

6. Don't feel badly. I even bought one of those metal thaw things - as seen on tv!
I did wait a long time and only got it since Target was selling them dirt cheap. But it's easy to store since it's flat like a cutting board. So I haven't regretted it. I use it all the time. The other day I thawed one of those wedge shaped beef roasts on it in several hours. I put it on the board at 10:30 in the morning and we had it for dinner at 5. So with the baking time, that's not too shabby!

4. Put my pork roast on a cast iron pan as suggested by a
previous poster, 4.5 pounds of frozen boneless roast. On the pan at 9:30AM, defrosted and ready to cook at 3. Works great!

7. I have noticed that a package
of bacon or German sausages thaw much quicker if placed directly on the top of my glass top stove. Of coarse I wouldn't do that with any meat that might leak onto the stove top, but I guess it might be because of the high conductivity of the stove top?

9. I can't put a package of sausages on top of my glass stove
One of my five dogs (one in particular) would eat it.

In fact, one day, I left some sausages out - not for long - and they were gone. Therefore, so was dinner.

So my wife then picked up a pre-roasted chicken at the supermarket. Soon that dog and our Shih-Tzu (who can't reach the stove, obviously) were having a picnic on the front lawn.

Finally, we ordered a pizza. Guess who got the last piece?

(sigh)

8. Gawd, you're getting old
I couldn't have posted that more than a week or so ago.

I guess we're both going down the drain. Sometimes I don't remember shit I said 20 minutes ago.
