The neighbor lady (83) passed a week ago and the old man called me over and he's known me for 35yrs. and knows I like to cook. He handed me a bowl with a piece of meat covered in vinegar. I say ok. He says she had it sitting here on the counter for a good week or so before she passed. It didn't stink, he said she did it all the time. I'm down with marinating meat in the fridge for a couple of days, but out on the counter top I doooonnn't know for sure?? Thoughts anyone??? thanks.

...I always marinate sauerbraten in the frig. Why take a chance....tell the man it was wonderful and pitch it. He meant well, and if by chance she marinated it in European vinegar (24-25%) you can't be sure how much she diluted it.
Cheers

2. Sorry to hear about your |

neighbor. And I agree with Bjornsdotter about disposing of the meat. A week on the counter does not sound too healthy.
But now you've made me hungry for sauerbraten. :) Just may be adding that to my menu list. And maybe some homemade spaetzle?
