I have some couscous. It's horrible.
Well maybe that's an exaggeration. I bought a container of couscous that has sundried tomato and spinach 'flavouring'. We don't like it. I prepared it as directed. What can I do with this other than toss it. I hate to waste food. Is it good cold in a salad or something?

1. Make tabouli.
I put vinegar in mine tho many recipes don't call for it. That would probably kill that horrible flavor.

4. Onions will definitely help it, especially red onion
A little garlic might help it along, too, along with olive oil and vinegar. You can also add some canned chickpeas to boost the protein, make it a dinner salad.

Anything to kill the taste of whatever they did to what is really a nice food will help.

5. It's chilling now! here's what i did..
I kept tasting as I added things. Tarragon Vinegar, minced garlic, red onion diced, chopped grape tomatoes, white pepper, a pinch of salt, and a drizzle of store brand salad dressing Poblano Pepper and Roasted Tomato, just a drizzle.

It's now really good!!

Thanks for ALL the input.

9. Cool!
I made some tabouli yesterday for our lunches, even tho I didn't have any parsley. I had half a bag of bulgar wheat. Really hard to taste that as you go! LOL I used onions, grape tomatoes, black olives, finely diced cucumber, olive oil, lemon juice, and red wine vinegar. Pretty much all I had to put in it since I hadn't planned on making it. but it tastes really good, so that's what counts.

Glad yours turned out really good! :hi:

6. That's one reason I avoid convenience foods. My taste in seasonings
differs from the people who invent these things.

7. I wasn't thinking of it as convenience food .. It wasn't premade
as such, just added seasoning I guess. But it wasn't good.

I did manage to play with it and get it tasting really quite good after all.

8. I don't like a lot of the flavored couscous. What I really like is the Israeli couscous
The normal "flavored" ones are these tiny little things and they often taste gritty, imho. There used to be a company that sold wonderful "Couscous Grande" - I can't find them any more - but basically it's Israeli couscous - the large ones. Those are just wonderful, and slide right down, and pick up flavor like you wouldn't believe. I hate the micro-couscous, but love the large (Israeli) ones. If you see them, pick them up. They're slightly larger than a BB, and fun to work with.

10. thanks Tab! I will look for that.
Once I flavoured (Doctored) up what we had, it wasn't too bad. But I will try to find the Israeli Couscous.
