Scones. Hot, fresh, and yummy! |
|
I made scones this weekend. Recipe is the basic generic scone recipe in King Arthur Flour's 200th Anniversary Cookbook.
White flour 2 c. Whole wheat flour 1 c. baking powder, baking soda, salt, and I think 4 T. sugar (the sugar and butter amounts are adjustable to taste) 4 T. butter cut into the dry ingredients 1 1/4 c. sour milk (I just add 1 T. cider vinegar to regular milk and let it sit a few) Stir the milk in with a fork, just maybe 20 seconds.
I make a bannock, just a big round thing about 1" thick. Greased (with lard) baking sheet, 500 degree oven turned down to 450 when the bannock put in, bake 25 minutes.
I made it last night and had a slice with butter and a cup of tes (while posting on DU about the FLDS foofaraw). Now I get the leftovers every morning for breakfast this week!!

If you can find clotted cream, it's an awesome topper.
