You may (or may not) recall my whining about having to sell my beloved Kitchenaid Mixer.
I used to have the 6-quart monstrously big pro model. Had to sell it when things were financially bleak with my ex. Much sadness ensued.

I'm still on a bit of a budget, but finally snagged a new-in-box 4.5 quart classic model on eBay for $147 (that includes shipping). It's not a monster like my old one, but should suffice quite nicely. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

It should arrive in about 5 days. I'm so happy I could

I've REALLY missed my mixer!! :bounce:

3. Don't think of it as a small Kitchenaid.
Think of the 6 qt jobbie as a grossly oversized one.

There are two of those small, tilt head models in my immediate family. Both are over 30 years old.

They still run like champs.

4. Right, mine is the cheapest tilt head model from Wally's
(yes, I know, but this was 12 years ago and there was no way I could turn down that $126 price). It's stood up to whatever I've thrown its way.

I like the convenience of having things like an immersion blender and rice cooker but I think I could live without them. The one appliance I don't think I could do without is the mixer.

5. That is a most excellent way to look at it.
And I can't WAIT for it to arrive. :hi:

6. Goody!
I have a 5 qt from QVC that I treated myself to when I retired in '99 and it feels big. So the 4.5 is going to feel very big, too, and serve you well.

I've been using it a lot lately to make my banana bread. Just can't seem to stir those fruit breads like I used to. And then all the messy parts go right into the dishwasher. I'm in love with the strength and versatility of KA's.

Do post when it arrives and you use it. We want details!

7. I traded my 5 qt model in for a 6 qt model a few years ago...
and have wished many times that I still hadn't done so. There are so many small things that I do that I find the 6 qt bowl kind of too big for. I'd LOVE to have my 5 qt model back!

Plus, the 6 qt machine is REALLY moisy...

Congrats to you a your great purchase! I can't wait to hear what's the first thing you do with it!

8. Perhaps the kitchen gods don't want me to have another Kitchenaid mixer.
Looks like I'm the victim of my first-ever eBay fraud RE that mixer (I've been on eBay for 12 years--never had problems before). I'm out a good chunk of money, and still have no mixer.

:-(

whine/off.

9. Did you alert the Ebay fraud squad?
You need to. It's probably a case of someone who procrastinates to the point of going through life comatose. However, a letter from Ebay will shake up the most recalcitrant of them.

If it's fraud, that person needs to be banned from the site. Chances are a whole lot of people "won" that mixer.

10. Yep, filed complaints with eBay and PayPal.
I'm not optimistic I'll get my money back, but I'll bend over backwards trying.

11. So sorry. I hate it when that happens. For me it's more than just the money loss.
It hurts to put trust out there and then be taken advantage of. And the time and energy it takes to recover it through ebay just makes matters worse. I prefer sites like Amazon because they take over the burden of dealing with the problem and reimburse you. Also, if you use a credit card, some cc companies do the same thing.

Anyway...sigh....I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

12. It may not be a total loss

paypal can help you get the money back, and maybe the person's just on vacation and haven't gotten to sending it, or wasn't smart enough about what it costs to ship (assuming you're in the States).

My wife started getting into selling on eBay - it chews up a lot of time between posting new items, photographing, writing, and then processing orders, weighing, doing labels, packing, shipping etc.

If you went through PayPal, though, you may be in luck.

On edit: Or inconveniently perhaps their computer bit the dust or something. It's happened.

13. I hope not.
The indications aren't good, though--in the past few days, the seller has gotten several negative feedback comments about items not received, so it's not just me.

It'll be at least a month before PayPal resolves everything and I find out if I get any money back. Sigh.

Thanks for the encouragement, though. :hi:

if this one is still available, what color it is, and ship it to you?

ETA: I just used mine for the first time today and I'm still kind of ambivalent towards it. Maybe it will grow on me.
