Speaking of Stoves Part II
An old girlfriend (well, she was young at the time) her parents had this house with this monster cast-iron stove - i know I'd recognize the name in a second but I can't think of it.

You could get them gas, wood, or (I guess) oil fired, and it had all kind of baking chambers and stuff. I lusted after this thing for years (lusted after her more, but that's another story), and regrettably now can't remember the name (!) but it was a really well-known high-end brand, I think like sort of the Le Creuset of stoves.

Anyone know what it might have been?

That's it. It was an Aga.

Damn, that was a nice stove. I'd love to get one.

4. There was an Aga cooker fad back in the 80s

and a lot of yuppies installed them in townhouses they were renovating. They heated the places so well that most people found it necessary to install a small gas or electric stove to use in summer.

They still sell them and even have a biofuel model. They have, however, discontinued the wood fired stoves.

5. Have they disconitnued the wood models worldwide or just here in the US?
The Aga was invented in the mid 1920s (in England?) and is pretty much unchanged since then. The inventor was a Nobel winner, I think.

6. Yeah, her parents had money
Her stepdad had like 8 million bucks at this was the 80s. Regardless, I got the impression the stove was from the 40s or so, and fairly timeless. Even if I could afford the stove itself, I don't think I could transport it - must weigh at least 1000 pounds.
