Best BBQ in New York City?
I realize it's not the first thing you may think of but my sister and I like to eat BBQ everywhere we go. We seek it out and aren't afraid to go off the beaten path for some good flavor. We'll be there next week and want to try at least one place.

Suggestions?

I have friends who swear by it. When I'm in NY I'm more interested in eating Deli, pizza or upscale frou frou stuff. I can't endorese it but can tell you that I've heard it's good.

4. Thanks!
We eat everything, but we're trying to become competition BBQ judges and want to try it everywhere we go.

5. I'm scared the lounge will break out in an Olive Garden war...
We won't eat there, of course, but mentioning food and NY at the same time seems to bring out the discussion anyway.

Thanks for the link! :)

3. Try Virgil's
A friend and I like to eat there when we are in the theater district. You and your sister can catch a show and eat some good barbecue.

Here's the link:

6. That one keeps popping up
when I do general searches of BBQ in NY.

Do you know anything about the ribs at Spanky's? Seems to get good reviews.

Thanks!

13. Hell, yes!
If you go, you just gotta try the BBQ lamb as well as the ribs.

And the BBQ sauces are too too good.

9. Honest to god I didn't think this place was still there
Tasty Rib House in Brooklyn, NY.

We used to go there in the early 70s before I moved to Colorado. People would line up down the block to get in for the take out. The best ribs I ever had in my life. Falling off the bone good and the sides are great, too. Next time hubby and I visit, I'm heading there.

Maybe you just wanted Manhattan. But I was so shocked that it's still in biz, I had to mention them. :D

12. I will check it out
I'm making a list now to see how many places we have time for. We won't have a car so we may have to cover a smaller range. Thanks for the tip!

10. Well, it sure as hell ain't Virgil's. Not in my opinion.
Overhyped place, that one. Awful.

Rarely did BBQ in NYC, but every now and again we did, and campy and slatternly as it seems, I think Dallas BBQ is the best of all the BBQ places I ever ate at.

Mind you, I never went to any higher end BBQ places, so I can't offer opinion on those fancy schmancy places.

For cheap, plentiful, and damned good BBQ beef and pork ribs, chicken, buffalo chicken wings, oven roasted chicken, deep friend onion blooms, and other stuff that one shouldn't eat too often, Dallas BBQ is the place to go to.

I would suggest NOT going on a Friday night because it'll be busy as hell; but, if you like to people watch, especially to watch over-dressed up moron women with 3-inch fake nails trying to eat BBQ ribs and corn on the cob without getting anything on her dress, jammed into her fingernails, or anywhere on her face, it's a hilarious place to be. Absolutely fucking hilarious!

11. LOL! We are NOT into the fancy places at all...
not for BBQ anyway! Dallas is another name that pops up on the Best Of lists I've seen.

We're pretty good at sampling so it's not like we're out looking for a bargain. My sister is into the ribs moreso than I am. I prefer the pulled pork but I like to try whatever the particular place is known for best. (I can't figure out how to word that sentence properly!)

If you see two middle-aged ladies eating and scribbling notes on the side, it's us! We're as campy as it gets. :)
