Just got back from the Thanksgiving feast. My contribution was

Mama Stamburg's Cranberry Relish. It was a big hit! I've always wanted to try it and finally did.

In my research I discovered the originator of the relish. It wasn't Mama Stamburg, it was Craig Claiborne.

Henceforth I shall be taking this stuff to all feasts.

2. I'm curious to attempt it

but my other half hates horseradish about as much as I love it. If his mom makes a brisket for the next holiday, I think I'm going to attempt to slip it in there. She loves horseradish, too.

As Susan Stamberg has noted, her mother-in-law got the recipe from a 1959 New York Times clipping of Craig Claiborne's recipe for cranberry relish. In 1993, Claiborne told Stamberg: "Susan, I am simply delighted. We have gotten more mileage, you and I, out of that recipe than almost anything I've printed."

4. I had never tasted horseradish before I left home. I once went to a

seafood feast that had real cocktail sauce. The horseradish gave me the impression that something was spoiled and I didn't eat a thing. Once I discovered what horseradish tasted like, I fell in love with it. Oh the sheltered life I lived at home. :-)

5. Boy do I know that!

I had never even so much as had Chinese food at home. If it wasn't spaghetti or meat and potatoes, we never had it. Except for the occasional tacos. I love horseradish, too. Hate to eat beef without it.

Almost came over to AR last weekend with some friends. They were trekking over to pick up blueberry bushes from some folks living high atop a ridge over there somewhere, but I'm not sure of the area or nearby towns. We had too many chores to do around the homestead so we declined.
