Got to taste some fare of one of the "Hell's Kitchens" chefs last night
I dont watch TV, but I think that is the name of the show. Our friend turned 50 and splurged. The chef is from a local place Flip Flops in New Smyrna Beach Fla. He catered our friends party, cocktail food. Lets see, there was bruschetta of several flavors,, salmon mousse, tuna carpaccio ( like, yum), a mushroom thingy I did not try, also california style pizza cut into strips.
I was mostly there for the col' beer, but the ladies in the crowd were "oohing and ahhing" the food. The chef had indicated the filming of the show was over, but he was sworn to secrecy as to won

1. Which one was it? I'm a Ramsay fan and watch the show.
After the last episode I wondered aloud how they manage to assemble so many losers in one place. It seems if any of them produce an edible meal it's a complete accident. It's hard to get my brain around any of these people - or the past winners even - running a restaurant that isn't a McDonald's.

5. I think he's a front runner at this point given he actually managed
to cook a piece of meat properly.

7. I'm so glad he won
I was rooting for him from the beginning!

He seems like a nice kid, I actually teared up at the final when he was crying about his mom, who was gone, and how proud she would have been (sniff, sniff) it really was touching.

8. I've been to Flip Flops. Not bad - but the old one was very small
He recently bought a Shells that went out of business - now has a restaurant with a kitchen as big as the old Flip Flops. Big crowd on-hand Thurs for the final.

Gossip is that he might miss out on the money. Apparently he was to keep quiet as to the outcome of the show. Well, to buy this new place, he broke his pledge of secrecy and announced he had won - and because of that, the winnings will be withheld.

So - where do you live? I am in Port Orange - about 12-15 miles north of New Smyrna.

9. Isn't he supposed to be the exec chef at Borgota in Atlantic City?
I thought that was his prize for winning the show?

11. Ah, I didn't know that!
His interview when he won where he mentioned his Mom was very touching. I wish him all the best.

12. and he is - I did have a chance to meet him when I visited
his restaurant.

I was waiting for a few other guests - sitting alone for a while. He came over to chat a bit - talk about which beer I should have as I waited. Very friendly.

I think those days are gone. You can do that when you seat a max of 20 people. His new restaurant is much much larger. Of course, he will be in NJ for a while.

But your observation was right on. A nice guy.
