I don't know if anyone would be interested in this but the Daring Bakers and our own Ms. Lucinda's postings got me to thinking about maybe having a monthly project here for everyone to try. Someone different gets to pick a cooking or baking project each month, nothing too difficult, but not slap-together-Sandra-Lee-easy, either. No one has to participate unless they want to.
We could either pick a recipe to all try, or just a dish/item and everyone find/create their own. Then we could share ideas, failures, successes, variations, etc. It wouldn't be a contest or a challenge but a way of helping each other out and maybe developing a catalog of tried and true recipes.
What does everyone think?

Great Idea!!! Maybe something like the challenge from the old Iron Chef shows?
- you get a main ingredient and a few extras, and you have to find or create a recipe for it?
but keep it cheap for those of us who don't have access to truffles or fat netting or beef testicles......

8. Oh, yes. I love that idea. Specific ingredients! |
|
And meat eaters could make something including meat and vegetarians something without!
I also have limited access to special ingredients but we do have buffalo in the area. Rocky mountain oyster?

9. I've never seen any of those so-called reality |
|
cooking competitions (and I'm not sad about that) but definitely nothing with extravagant ingredients.
I'm thinking that we can do like the photog group and everyone nominate something, then we can post a poll and vote on what it will be, then whoever wishes to participate can bring their results back on a date designated for the end of the month. Or sumpthin like that.

11. great idea, along the lines of 'cinda's favorite recipe threads |
|
we could do Mac & Cheese, marinades, breakfast rolls/coffee cakes, roasts,
the possiblities are endless, we could even do like beans and rice, sloppy joes, asian, stir fry
dang, great idea!!

19. But that could be something that you |
|
put in your own version of a dish. That's why I like the idea of just picking a dish and not spelling out ingredients. Someone might use an ingredient that someone else might not and there would be lots of variations and nice surprises.

I'm going to bed but everybody be thinking about what they want to nominate for the first group project. I'll put up a poll tomorrow.
I'm betting we end up higher in the DU forums with the higher post counts, if Lucinda hasn't accomplished that already with those fabulous bread recipes and getting us all to talk about what's for dinner.
