Can cooling racks be used on the grill?
I'm kinda wondering what hickory smoked potato/onion chunks would taste like :)

1. As long as the rack is solid metal (not chrome plated) you can use it
The chrome plating might flake off if you use one.

Why not just cut bigger vegetable slabs?

2. It may be chrome
hmm.. bigger slabs... now why didn't I think of that?

I usually spice/herb them and wrap up in foil. Thats regular propane grilling though.

Next time :D

Thanks.

3. As long as it's not painted or coated, sure
but it seems like a waste. I've got a couple of racks made of heavy gauge metal that are especially for the grill plus a square arrangement that will serve for stir grilling tender veggies. They do a good job on grilled veggies, which, by the way, are absolutely the best way of doing many vegetables.

You've never lived until you've had asparagus caramelized on the grill.

4. I have a thing made for the grill
. . . that's basically a basket and keeps small stuff from falling through. You can do veg or tofu and it works really well. If you have a broiler pan for your regular oven, you can just use the top part that has the holes. :)

6. Yes, it sure does
Late in the summer I cut up and grill peppers, zucchini and eggplant tossed in olive oil and garlic in one of those.
