I can think of litte better in the summer than a stone fruit so juicy you must eat it over a sink. |
|
I just ran into some pluots that were amazing. As big as a huge peach. The skins felt more like water balloons than fruit. They are sweeter than gummi bears. And they explode with juice when you bite them. There is no way to eat them neatly. The juice runs freely down your arm and chin.
I only bought four. I am gong back for more.

incredible this year. I've been buying about a dozen a week. Got some white peaches last week and used them to make and can a few jars of a nice topping for ice cream. But we've been eating the hell outta the yellow ones. :9

Right now the Porter peaches are coming in and are very popular and tasty in the area. However, because peaches are one of the fruits that retain a high percentage of the pesticides and herbicides used to grow them conventionally, I've been passing on the local ones and buying organic at Whole Foods. They have been incredibly delicious!

8. I really haven't bought nectarines |
|
in ages. When the peaches are available, that's all I buy. After going all winter with little fruit, I am more than making up for lost time. I buy a ton of fruit each week. Bill keeps telling me there's only so much fruit he can eat. He still gets about three different kinds in his lunch every day.

11. Gee, Stinky, haven't found such great nectarines here, |
|
and I generally prefer them to peaches (due to fur!) Will try pluot!

12. I just finished the third case of them (from Costco) |
|
Their fruit is usually ordinary. The peaches we go were ordinarily ordinary. The nectarines, however, have been other worldly.
The cases are marked
Sugarine Nectarine, Lot #21-11 Harvested 6/30/09 Kingsburg Orchards Kingsburg, GA
The peaches just now coming in from Virginia (Shenandoah Valley) are far better, even if ragged and ugly looking.

10. My mom used to talk about fruit like that |
|
She'd say that the plums/peaches etc are so ripe, you need to lean into the sink to eat them. And I do that to this day when they've got that beautiful ripeness.
I'm so glad you brought this up!

Picking California apricots off the tree and slurping all that juiciness...was similar. Thanks for a great memory :hi:
