I made scones this weekend for the first time.
I made one batch with raisins at my son's house. They were such a hit that my daughter requested that I make some for her the next day. I used dried blueberries in that batch. They were moist and rich, but not too sweet. I used this recipe:

The dough seemed very dry while I was mixing it, but it came together nicely when I kneaded it. I'll be making these again since the family has already come up with a list of variations they want me to try.

1. Sour cream scones are the best!
I remember them fondly from back in the good old days when I could eat that much butter.

Enjoy them while you can.

These days it's buttermilk muffins without any shortening at all. No, they're not leaden, they're quite light and moist. They're just not terribly rich but perfect with jam.

2. I don't bake like this for myself. Most of my cooking is done when I spend
the weekend at one of my kids. I enjoy it and it's a treat for them.

3. Thanx for that reminder!
I made some for the first time earlier this year and they were wonderful. Been thinking about doing it again but keep forgetting about them.

Glad you had a great experience making them, too! :9

4. I wish I had tried them sooner. For some reason, I thought they were kind of "temperamental" and
had just never tried them before. My DIL wants me to make some without fruit and use them for strawberry shortcake. I think they would be great for that.

5. Great idea!
They would be perfect for that! to your DIL!

I had sort of thought the same as you. But then when I'm feeling bored and adventurous and want to expand my repertoire, I try these things and find they aren't difficult at all.

6. I thought the same thing and they're a cinch.
My batter seemed too wet, especially since I barely incorporated the flour before slapping 'em on the cookie sheet. But they turned out nice and moist so the sticky mess was worth it.
