Nestles Chocolate Morsels
I hope I bought an aberrant bag of chips versus what I dread: The chocolate morsels have changed. And not for the better.

First, they barely taste intensely chocolate anymore. I've been eating them all my life and I know what I expect. This is serious in my book.

Next, the texture is different. They used to be firm and resilent when you bit into them. Now, they have the consistency of Tender Friskies.

Has anyone else noticed these changes?

1. I have noticed the same change in taste...
but not in texture. They are less chocolatey. I keep a bag in the freezer, to be eaten a handful at a time as a snack :) Shhhhhh....don't tell my kids where they are.

2. seems like I read something about this in the paper
a while ago. Somebody was going to change the rules that define chocolate in this country. Now we have to be careful we're getting something real. I buy Roundy's store-brand myself. They're rated as pretty good.

3. HFCS?
Have you checked the ingredients?

I remember when they started making candy corn with syrup. Ugh.

5. I vaguely remember something about that

in the news not too long ago. It was either the degree of cocoa liqueur or butter they were using going down, or something to that effect.

I haven't bought regular chocolate chips in forever, so I would not have noticed. Like Warpy, I always try to get organic, fair trade and it's always very good.

:hi:

4. I get the fair trade cocolate chips at the food co op
They're in bulk and they still taste like real ones. My last bag of Ghirardelli chocolate chips tasted like the real thing, too.

I know what you mean about Nestle, those things taste like little pieces of chocolate fudge, not real chocolate chips.

If I can't get the bulk chocolate chips any more, I'll start buying blocks of fair trade dark chocolate and cutting it into chunks.

I'll never use those Nestle things again. They're that awful.
