SO is an atheist and not really observant but will use any excuse to "demand" a feast from me. Gotta love em though but I draw the line at making his desired latkes and Haroset for the New Year (rofl). Since the Chanterelles are in he'll have to cope with a steak with a mess of Chanterelles. I'm making a quick Asian Pear (gotta use those suckas up) Upside down cake and a simple salad with lots of grape tomatoes off the vine. I'm opening a bottle of Montepulciano.
Come on over!

All looks delicious, especially those $7/lb. Chanterelles! Montepulciano is my new favorite red, too! Happy new year!

What's funnier to me is how he mixes and mingles his "Holiday" foods. The Apple/nut chutney stuff is easy. I even keep a bottle of Kosher sweet wine in the pantry just to make him happy every once in a while. The Latkes will wait until Hanukkah where they belong.
